  1. Heavy is the head that wears the crown. Literally and figuratively. She’s paid a heavy price for that crown and that prince.

  2. Glad King Charles is opening the vault for Camilla and Katherine. The previous monarch, for unknown reasons, didn’t do a lot of loaning. This tiara created by Prince Albert didn’t get a lot of use after the Queen Mum passed.

  3. Can we pause and give Sophie her flowers tonight? I think she usually wilts into the wallpaper a bit but she looks fantastic.

The longer hair, the hairstyle, the tiara, the dress, the makeup, the necklace/drip.

She looks so fresh and ready to SERVE! Did she just come off of vacation or something because the princess is glowing.

We see you Miss Sophie! Please take a bow!!

  4. Pic #4 even though it isn’t of highest quality truly shows the magnificence of the tiara, my goodness.

  5. Someone let Sophie wear a different tiara. Free her from the Aquamarine!

  6. All of the royal women shone tonight.

My only gripe with the Oriental Circlet Tiara is that it looks off-center and crooked on Catherine.

  7. Would anyone know why Catherine is not wearing her yellow ribbon from Queen Elizabeth II? Sophie and Anne are wearing both the yellow and blue ribbons. Catherine is only wearing the blue.

  8. Why is the tiara falling off her head? With the drink in her hand and the tiara so crooked she looks drunk.

  9. For the POW, tonight is definitely the best of the three formal gowns pictured in the carousel. Yes, the Tiara is a bit crooked but I imagine it’s hard to anchor properly with her hair down – though from the above angle photo- they certainly tried. Despite that little snafu, her hair looks nice. They’ve calmed down the volume and it flatters her whole look rather than overwhelming her frame.

Sophie and Anne also look lovely. Love the functional watch on Sophie’s wrist. Anne’s going old school with gloves. 👍🏻👍🏻

William always looks slightly awkward. Like he’s cosplaying at being a prince. Charles wears the fancy get up with a lot more confidence.

  10. The tiara is lovely but I don’t think it works. I am not sure if it’s because her hair is down or it’s just too big for her. That said, I love that she is digging around the royal jewelry box and pulling out some sparkles we haven’t seen before.

  11. The tiara is just too big for her head. Is it at all adjustable? It’s gorgeous but it looks like it’s about to fall off.

I’m sorry, all of my tiaras have come from Claire’s, so they were cheap as hell but very adjustable!

  12. Shouldn’t Camilla be sitting where Kate sits? Or is the queen consort typically across?

  14. Ok, I hope this doesn’t sound like a dumb question, but is it mandatory for all the royal women to wear a tiara at state dinners? Also, I think Catherine should have a whole new tiara created for her that includes the gem stones of each of her children’s birthdates. That would be fabulous!

  15. Something about her is off. She comes across very fake possibly because they made her out to be so flawless.

  16. I’m such a fan of the POW’s tiara choice. I know Royal jewels are bit on the nose these days. To me, the jewels that they wear speak to world history, geopolitics and the power of ritual and ornamentation – the good, the bad and the ugly.

The Queen Victoria Oriental Circlet Tiara is the only tiara designed for Queen Victoria by Prince Albert. Prince Albert was a design nerd, with taste. And access to almost limitless resources. He designed many pieces for QV and their daughters. If I was him, honestly, same.

Prince Albert’s design was made by [Garrard](https://www.garrard.com/en-us/blogs/house/queen-victorias-oriental-circlet-tiara-a-mughal-inspired-masterpiece). It features lotus flowers and Mughal arches because it was inspired by the jewels presented by the Dutch East India Company at the London Great Exhibition in 1851.

Like a lot of royal jewellery, it’s had many alterations over the years, explained in more detail [here](https://queenvictoriaroses.co.uk/2023/06/10/queen-victorias-oriental-circlet-tiara/). The details of the alterations are a fascinating insight into the geopolitics of times gone by that still shape the world we live in, if you’re nerdy.

One notable change – Queen Alexandra had the Burmese rubies added as a replacement for the Tiara’s original opals. Apparently those rubies were originally a gift to Queen Victoria from Nepal in the 1870s.

The tiara was also a favourite of the Queen mother, and when she died, QEII only wore it once. Seeing its glittering white diamonds and red rubies again with the POW’s blue gown is quite special for the history and jewellery nerds.

  17. She should get a more fluffy or curly hairstyle, the current one makes the tiara looks too big for her
