Should become a thing in all of Flanders. I’m absolutely *sick* of having to rush all Saturday to get my groceries and other errands done.
From somebody who lives where shops are open every sunday: It’s really confusing to take a daytrip on a sunday to realise everything is closed elsewhere
Is al het geval voor veel winkels in Gent! Met het nadeel dat ze dan wel maandag (of zaterdag) dicht zijn.
As someone who’s partner used to work retail, I am against this. It’s bad for the quality of life of the workers.
Oof, I’m happy I just quit my retail job in de Veldstraat. This is gonna suck for a lot of retail employees. I’m 100% against this.
Btw, you don’t get paid extra for working Sundays. It’s extra shifts and stores will not hire more employees. They’ll stretch the ones they have even thinner.
I’d like to see the M-F 9 to 5 crowd work retail for a couple months, they’d quickly change their tune.
So then all shops close at arbitrary days. It’s more annoying having to check every shop’s opening days before heading there than just accepting most are closed on sunday.
As someone who works in Ghent and will be the victim who has to waste their free day for all who can’t be bothered to just come during business hours, FUCK YOU.
Someday we’ll enter the 21st century, someday. Looking at the comments it’s not this year.
Expat here. Went to Medimarkt to buy something this Sunday and of course it was closed. During the weekdays it closes at f***ing 19:00 and can’t make it before close times.
Ended up ordering on Amazon.de because this country literally doesn’t allow me to spend money.
Totally against. Bad for all the workers.
GG to them and their families. Must suck when you can’t attend family gatherings etc. on Sunday because it’s your turn to work on Sunday.
Time to unionize
Binnenkort “wij vinden geen personeel”.
Rip people who work in retail.
Fuck this decision.
Ik snap al die comments over slecht voor de werkers niet….
Ik woon nu een tijd in nederland en de wetknemers daar vinden het systeem prima. Toegegeven de werknemer werkgever relatie is daar ook beter, en men staakt veel minder
As expected there are 2 sides here:
– 9 to 5, monday to friday workers that think how easy it would be for shops to be open 24/7 for their own personal convience. They don’t care about retail workers working conditions as long as they can get their stuff sunday evening at 9 o’clock.
– Retail workers that know what a disaster it will be , how they will basically be forced to give up even more of their social life because some fucker wants to do his shopping sunday evening. the sector is already stretched thin, this will mean even more pressure on those that remain.
People that think the retail sector will just hire more people clearly don’t know what they are talking about.
Guess which side i would pick as someone who isn’t an egotistical bastard (or atleast pretends he isn’t).
after working in Colruyt group, where working December 31st from 7am to 5pm (literally the entire day cause the shops close at 530 or 6 on December 31st) fuck all of you asking to keep shops open. I only know it for Colruyt group, but they already pay the minimum they can, give barely any vacation (worm there full time for 5 years to get 1 extra vacation day). they have barely any workers because nobody wants to work in miserable fucking grocery stores. so they hire students who then become miserable themselves and they can barely get trained. have the full time staff working 40 hour work weeks already, just so you can come buy a fucking bag of chips and some beers on Sunday, while the retail workers already get Jack shit when it comes to time off, and 1 day, Sunday, where they can also go out with friends or family. fuck everybody who is for this. fuck you
Why is everything becoming American? Stores closed on Sunday is only a mild inconvenience. Having stores open on Sunday is a huge inconvenience and life changer for both shop owners and workers.
Also what about the peace and quiet you get once a week? That’ll be gone too.
Just seems like an overall bad idea.
Lol the comments. “It’s bad for the quality of life of the workers.”
Did we forget the zorgsector already? Do you think they just close the hospitals on Sundays?
All of these peeps crying and shouting again just because of the teeny tiny possibility of change. This is Belgium. Stuck in the past, stuck in the present. I’ll just keep shopping online then, fuck y’all, lol. The ones against the proposal to open up shops on Sunday make it so that Jeff Bezos can get away with having his employees piss in plastic bottles. Guess you poor retail folks still have the luxury of a toilet break, at least. But let’s not think about that, right.
Also why does everything in Belgium close at 6?
The city itself is very touristic , but outsideth.e center there is no need too .
