    * Halle Berry took an unexpected opportunity to criticize California Gov. Gavin Newsom at The New York Times’ DealBook Summit on Wednesday, after he vetoed a bill supporting medical care for menopausal women two years in a row. The law has been backed by Berry and would have made it easier for women to receive medical treatments to address the effects of menopause, per Politico Pro.
    * Berry said of Newsom, “Back in my great state of California, my very own governor, Gavin Newsom, has vetoed our menopause bill, not one, but two years in a row.”
    * “But that’s okay, because he’s not going to be governor forever, and with the way he has overlooked women, half the population, by devaluing us in midlife, he probably should not be our next president either,” she continued, drawing an audible reaction from the crowd. “Just saying.”

  18. Halle Berry really went off on Newsom, but it wasn’t because he’s anti women. It was about one specific bill on menopause care that he vetoed for budget reasons. She took it personally because she’s been talking a lot about hormones therapy and midlife health.

    It doesn’t mean he’s against women , his overall record actually supports women’s rights pretty strongly. This was more of a disagreement about one policy, not who he is as a person.

  24. This is a really bad look for Berry to be honest. I’m not a Newsom fan by any stretch of the imagination, but to complain about not passing a bill that would have directly benefited you and your company in the midst of the complete obliteration of the rule of law, an ethnic cleansing campaign, and inclement economic recession, has to be one of the most privileged and out of touch takes I’ve heard in a while.
