Aldi has inaugurated a new supermarket in Marnach, in the commune of Clervaux, marking the discount chain’s 18th outlet in Luxembourg.
The store, which opened on Wednesday, is located in Block C of the Nordstrooss Shopping Mile and replaces the long-standing Aldi situated just across the road.
The previous shop, in operation for 25 years, had become too small to accommodate its expanding range of fresh and locally sourced products. “The old shop had become too small for our growing range of fresh produce and local products,” said Olivier Thunus, construction manager at Aldi Luxembourg. “We seized the opportunity to set up a modern Aldi shop within the new shopping centre to better serve our Luxembourg customers.”
The new first-floor space covers around 1,050 square metres and features large bay windows. Described by Aldi as being “comparable to a large sports hall,” the unit is roughly a quarter larger than the former location and was designed with sustainability in mind.
Inside, the layout prioritises fresh produce, particularly fruit, vegetables, salads, ready meals, drinks and fresh fruit juices.
The store also offers more than 200 items tailored to the Luxembourg market, including local meat products, alongside a dedicated bakery and patisserie area. “The layout has been designed so that the fresh produce range has pride of place at the front of the shop, creating a real fresh market,” said Jérôme Gohmann, sales manager at Aldi Luxembourg.

Aldi operates in the hard-discount sector, competing mainly with Lidl and, to a lesser extent, Colruyt.
The chain now counts 18 stores across the country, with locations in Bascharage, Belval, Bertrange, Capellen, Differdange, Dudelange, Echternach, Foetz, Gasperich, Ingeldorf, Junglinster, Mersch, Pommerloch, Sandweiler, Schmiede, Wasserbillig and Beggen.
The Marnach outlet sits within a highly competitive retail environment, neighbouring retailers such as Action, Cactus, Shoppi and Naturata in the Nordstrooss business park.
The former Aldi shop closed on 1 December. From 6 December, it will host a temporary clearance outlet offering non-food items at heavily discounted prices before closing permanently on 21 December.
