Ropes & Gray has appointed Gretchen Greene as its first Chief of Artificial Intelligence Strategy, a newly created executive role that places the firm among the earliest AmLaw 25 firms to formalize AI leadership at the senior level. Greene, a veteran AI strategist who most recently led Meta’s AI adoption initiatives for policy and legal teams, will guide the firm’s global AI strategy as it continues to expand investment in advanced technologies that enhance legal practice and client service.
In her new role, Greene will collaborate closely with Chief Information Officer Marsha Stein to coordinate and accelerate the firm’s AI vision across offices and practice groups. The firm said the position is designed to generate measurable client value while deepening the integration of AI into legal workflows, operational processes, and innovative service offerings. Greene joins Ropes & Gray with a broad portfolio of experience spanning global AI adoption, executive strategy, and advisory work for safety-critical industries including biotechnology, clinical medicine, and research institutions. She has helped shape worldwide AI standards, legislation, and governance frameworks. Earlier in her career, she practiced law at Ropes & Gray as a tax and benefits attorney, giving her both technical and legal context for the role.
