This guy is a butcher whose main strategy consists of holding the line. Sack him, please.
I remember when this sub loved this guy 😂
Uh yeah I don’t think that works when you have a 1:3 manpower disadvantage
Small Soviet army will never beat big Soviet army 🙁
This is the only winning strategy.
Stop telling them your strategy and plans.
Exhausted from what? Winning?
Idk, he seems to totally succeeded in exhausting Ukrainian Army.
That goes both ways though and very Soviet like thinking (one of syrskyi’s biggest weaknesses). Russia is also exhausting Ukraine, and Ukraine is doing it with less resources, men, and wavering support.
Maximize their losses while minimizing your own. Sounds like a good plan.
In case you are going to complain that Syrsky is a “Soviet general with Soviet thinking”, haha, don’t be. For the first time since 2022, I found a relatively mainstream and popular figure in the West (ret. Gen. Mick Ryan) saying publicly that the Soviet way of war is *maneuver*. If Syrsky is *truly* Soviet in doctrine, he’ll be fine. Ryan stated that the way forward for Western militaries is to do what the USA did in the Cold War, i.e AirLand Battle, which was the perfected and updated Soviet Deep Battle, which in turn was developed in the interwar period. OTOH, Syrsky is playing colonel at the front.

Basically, the Soviet doctrine was not wrong or bad; it contained some good things that Ukraine perhaps should have done, like mobile defence. Forces like the US Army can gain a technical and individual one-on-one quality advantage but, like Zaluzhny put it in that the Economist interview “military science is Russian”.
On the other hand, that interview got Zaluzhny fired, so perhaps, he knows nothing about military science. Or perhaps Mick Ryan, too, also knows nothing about Soviet doctrine. He said nothing new about Soviet doctrine that I don’t already know, but it’s still interesting to see him saying it.
