December the 6th, 2025 – Croats have decided which Croatian city is the best to live in, and it isn’t anywhere near the coast.
As Poslovni Dnevnik writes, the City of Zagreb recently announced on its official website that it had won the title of the Croatian city with the best quality of life in the category of cities with more than 35,000 inhabitants.
The awards ceremony for the most successful cities and EU projects in 2025 was held in Šibenik as part of the “Days of Regional Development and EU Funds” conference, and the award was accepted on behalf of the City of Zagreb by Mayor Tomislav Tomašević.
“I’m very proud that Croats consider Zagreb to be the best Croatian city to live in. We fully intend to continue to strive to make Zagreb a place where its residents and visitors alike feel good through numerous capital investments and good policies,” assured Tomašević.
The award for the Croatian city with the best quality of life is special in that the decision was made by Croats themselves, who decided in a survey carried out by the Ipsos agency that Zagreb is the best in terms of quality of life among all major cities in Croatia. In addition, the level of quality of life was assessed according to 29 objective criteria that included financial, economic and municipal indicators, as well as development and demographic policies.
