The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has opened fresh talks with the Czech Republic to strengthen bilateral defence cooperation and accelerate the modernisation of its air capabilities.

This followed a courtesy visit on 4 December 2025 by the new Czech Ambassador to Nigeria, H.E. Tomáš Výprachtický, accompanied by a delegation from Czech aerospace manufacturer Aero Vodochody, to the NAF Headquarters in Abuja. They were received by the Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Sunday Kelvin Aneke.

During the engagement, Aero Vodochody made a detailed presentation on its aircraft and technological offerings, setting the stage for high-level discussions on expanding Nigeria–Czech defence collaboration. The talks centred on the future of the NAF’s L-39 fleet, prospects for acquiring the L-410 NG multipurpose aircraft, and advanced platforms for intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance operations.

Other areas tabled include satellite technologies, unmanned aerial solutions for border security, and specialised technical training designed to enhance operational efficiency and deepen the NAF’s capacity in ongoing counter-insurgency and internal security operations.

Air Marshal Aneke, in his remarks, praised the Czech Republic for its long-standing support and reiterated the Force’s commitment to adopting cutting-edge, technology-driven solutions to boost airpower employment. He emphasised that expanding cooperation with partners like the Czech Republic remains crucial to NAF’s strategic drive for smarter, more effective air operations.

He noted that improved aircraft sustainment, capability development, and acquisition of modern platforms are essential to strengthening the Force’s readiness and operational superiority as it confronts evolving security threats nationwide.

The visit marks a renewed momentum in Nigeria–Czech defence relations and is expected to open new pathways for joint projects, advanced training, and the future expansion of NAF’s fleet and surveillance assets.
