The holidays are back upon us, and we inevitably get together with family and friends despite the politics that divide us.
We’re all well aware that we end up on different sides of issues when it comes to local, national and world politics. The special holiday get-togethers can drag us down into the depths of political conflict, even in the environment of a warm, inviting home or restaurant with good food, in what should be a relaxing atmosphere.
It’s not too often that we have that chance to get together, and it’s not too often that the distinct sound of snow geese can be heard overhead.
I recently looked up to see a group of a dozen or so, their white wings surfing a big northwest wind just below the cloud line. I think about the family we’re getting together for a holiday meal. It’s about the same number, a dozen or so. I then see the group overhead break into two and it makes me wonder about the family breaking apart over political ideology.
We have some definite differences in opinion. I watch the two groups overhead and then see a couple of the majestic white birds as they eloquently tip their wings and slide over, bridging the gap as the two groups again become one.
It may not be as smooth as the snow geese make it look, but there it is, the simple answer. Reach across the aisle and stay bonded as one. One family and one country.
