Hei hei! Tomorrow is a little Norweigan Christmas festival at a local Sons of Norway lodge here in the U.S. What snacks or Christmas treats should I buy? They usually bring in a ton. Last year we only got some Freida milk chocolate and cookies because we were overwhelmed 🙂 Thank you in advance!

  1. What are those almond cakes pretending to be? They’re not recognizable as any Norwegian traditional baked goods I know of.

  2. I don’t know what they usually sell at those festivals, so it’s a bit hard to help you, especially since the example in the picture isn’t something I recognise at all. I have no idea if that festival sells actual Norwegian things or completely random stuff Americans think is Norwegian (I have seen pictures of what some Americans think a lefse is, and it’s a travesty).

Anyway, if there’s anything real there, look for the following:

    Nidar Julemarsipan
    Julebrus
    Gløgg
Serinakaker (these should be home baked)
Krumkaker (these should be home baked)
    Multesyltetøy (Cloudberry jam)
Kransekake (this should probably not be home baked unless the baker is either an exceptional genius or professionally trained in Scandinavia)

  3. You did good last year, Freia melkesjokolade is perfect.
    Don’t recognize those cakes.

  4. Fun fact, Norweigans consume the most frozen pizza per capita in the world. Pizza in total is 11,4KG pizza per year and person, mostly from frozen.

Not surprizing when they live in a country which offers few possibilities for food culture to become good. They have very challenging prerequisites to grow food or to manage kettle. To be fair, their fish game is semi-ok, bit other than that they grow some moss or something.

I digress, but point is they have very few snacks to speak of. Im just assuming this but since Im Swedish and they are our sworn enemies I take any chsnce I get to bash them. And food/snacks, their abilities in that regard is abysmal and thats speaking volumes since Swedish cuisine isnt exactly top shelf either.

If not for their oil, they would still survive on canned fish only.
