December the 7th, 2025 – A young Croatian man from Pazin in Istria has invented self-healing concrete, rightfully being recognised at the international Eureka IIEC competition.
As Morski writes, an incredibly talented young Croatian man from Pazin who is also a final year student at the Faculty of Chemical Engineering and Technology, Ivan Sloković, recently won 3rd place at the prestigious international competition Eureka IIEC 2025.
Ivan’s innovation is ConCure, a form of concrete that actually “heals” itself and solves the global problem of corrosion of reinforced structures.
It doesn’t come as a surprise at all that this young Croatian man’s creation of self-healing concrete gained rightful recognition at the aforementioned prestigious international competition. The Eureka International Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition 2025 otherwise took place back on November the 20th in Zagreb.
His remarkable piece of innovation, ConCure, solves the global problem of corrosion of reinforced concrete in a revolutionary way – it enables its “self-healing”. The commendable project is the result of international cooperation between the Faculty of Chemical Engineering and Technology in Zagreb and the National Technical University of Athens in nearby Greece.
The Eureka IIEC competition otherwise gathered 20 teams from all over the world this year. The Croatian teams achieved notable results in other categories as well, showing that innovation is no longer reserved for laboratories and corporations but instead come from startups, universities and the bright ideas of young visionaries, as reported by local portal IstraIN.
