>14.5 per cent of the population [were born overseas]
That’s just an insane amount.
What I never get is why we need high immigration from a fundamental level and every time it is talked about someone gets called racist.
But I can’t see how it’s a good thing.
So you might have a country like Australia were they have previously wanted immigration because they had a lot of land and low population. Okay that makes sense, but we don’t.
You can have high immigration with lots of emigration with something like the EU. But I’m not sure that’s what we are getting or really ever had.
What we have is issues that a fixed with immigration. We don’t have enough doctors, proposed solution immigration. Why can’t we just fix our education system? We don’t have enough workers that want to work in really shitty conditions for low pay, proposed solution immigration. That’s an ideal is it? To keep pay low and working conditions shit. We don’t have enough people having kids because it is expensive and hard work, proposed solution immigration? How does a country get to a point where people find it so hard to have kids we don’t and we don’t even care about it.
To me it seems like immigration is used to paper of the cracks and the argument always devolves into racism. But I can’t see why people don’t talk about fixing the problems that are underlying.
Simply put, expatriates are needed to fill in the gaps. If immigration is 0, NHS will be the first to fall.
Well that explains the house prices….
It is rather that those who are not ”fine” with it do not express their opinion in public any longer, so they are not ”cancelled” or face criminal repercussion for having different, not politically correct, opinion.
Most people meaning elites who hate the British working class and love to use cheap immigrant labour.
The reason the public don’t think immigration is a top issue since brexit is that politicians and media have stopped whipping them up into a frenzy. The rich brexit backers have got what they want, and the morons who were taken in my the anti immigration rhetoric think the issue is “done now”, despite there being no change to the supposed problems. Almost like there was never a problem at all.
Immigration is essential to the exchequer. Simply because it does two things. It’s a way of importing skilled labour without the expense of training them and also the overwhelming majority work and pay taxes.
Oh shit! I posted an interesting article, and went to get some food. I come back to this discussion dominated by top comments echoing[ Stewart Lee’s cabbie](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=XkCBhKs4faI). FML!!
I want to delete this post now, but that will entrench cancellation complex. Catch 22 ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
There’s a lot of comments saying about bringing in people to do the jobs, that it would be okay if people could have more children instead.
A smaller population is better. Better for the environment, better for services not being overstretched, better for housing.
Even now most hours worked are productively pointless, and with increasing automation a number of jobs will go.
Instead of staying in the mindset of quantity needed, we should be looking at how best to manage a population decline to a stable level (with births and immigration still a thing of course), and how that smaller population can be better off.
Everyone remember that FGM story?

Nothing wrong with Immigration as a whole. But it depends on *WHO* is immigrating to the country.
Lmao noone asked me but yea guess we are “fine with that”
Yeah no shit.
Sure perceptions are inflienced by the media, the need for migrants has been made more clear overlockdown, but the truth is the issue most people in the UK had was with a perception of *uncontrolled* migration and criminality, not people’s race or nationality.
Interestingly they’ve disabled their comments section for this article.
People AREN’T ok with it, and they’ve voted this way for a long time. But when they t alk about it they’re called racist and risk being ostrasised or cancelled.
because mass immigration of cheap labour that will accept poor working conditions is a Tory’s wet dream and they’ve spent a lot of money on getting the media to tell us we’re bad people if we question the need for it
Says who? We don’t get a choice do we boris
Great to see the change to non-discriminatory and skills based immigration.
The problem for the last 20 years is the lack of infrastructure investment from the government to support these numbers.
People don’t generally have a problem with immigration, they have a problem with a high rate of immigration.
Gives Me More Tax Money So I’m Not Bothered.
Except the brits
People being fine with it doesn’t mean it’s good. It pushes up house prices, increases the need for developing houses on our green natural spaces and creates much more competition for jobs as well as strain on public services. English people should feel comfortable voicing this without being called waaaccciiissttt
The public are not ok with it at all, it is just that to mention it instantly gets you called a racist.
Nevermind that every other country in the world is allowed to protect it’s borders, for some reason the UK has to let anyone who wants to come here in and then allow them to instantly “be British” and have access to all the services paid for by residents.
It is already too late to do anything about now because the London-centric nature of British politics means that the people in power only play to the London crowd who are virtually all recent immigrants and want more immigration. A start contrast to the majority outside London who do not.
The UK is in the process of replacing it’s population with migrants and those who oppose will be tarred as racists and completely ignored.
Who wouldn’t want the most qualified candidates?
In 2019 government figures revealed that 9.7 million of the population were born in other countries ……90% are non European and 70% receiving benefits
In many city centres now they have to put up signs saying “do not defecate in the street”……….I would hazard a guess and say there is not one doctor……nurse…….scientist or engineer among them
