Leaders of Egypt’s refining sector companies convened in Alexandria to explore integration and share expertise among state-owned companies, in line with the Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources’ (MoPMR) strategic development goals, according to a MoPMR statement.
Held under the directives of Karim Badawi, Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, the meeting highlighted progress on several key projects in the sector, most notably the new diesel complex by Assiut National Oil Processing Company (ANOPC), which is set to begin production next year. Other significant developments discussed included the construction of five new storage tanks at Alexandria Petroleum Company(APC) to support export operations, as well as the ongoing renewal of 21 existing tanks alongside the construction of six new ones at Ameriya Petroleum Refining Company.
Salah Abdel Kerim, CEO of the Egyptian General Petroleum Corporation (EGPC), said that the meeting builds on the results of a previous one in Suez, noting that recent collaboration between Cairo, Alexandria, and Assiut refining companies reflects the sector’s successful integration efforts. Abdel Kerim affirmed the ministry’s full support for developing public sector companies to enhance performance and contribute to the national economy, pointing to ANOPC’s new Euro-spec diesel project as a powerful addition to the nation’s refining capabilities.
During the meeting, company leaders presented strategic initiatives aimed at improving efficiency and output across the sector. Maged El Kurdi, Chairman of Alexandria Mineral Oils Company (AMOC), outlined efforts to maximize the production of base oils while enhancing financial and environmental performance. Meanwhile, Reham Sayed, Chairman of APC, he completed development projects in the petroleum basin at Alexandria Port were presented, aimed at supporting export projects, receiving petroleum products, increasing solvent deliveries, and advancing the implementation of five new storage tanks to enhance operational efficiencyreviewed the completion of development projects at the Alexandria port’s petroleum basin designed to increase solvent deliveries and support trade.
Operational updates also covered infrastructure renewal and integration. Mohamed Sobhi, the chairman of Amreya Petroleum Refining Company (APRC), detailed ongoing work at the company’s aromatics complex to supply the local market, alongside developments in the plan to renew its storage and production facilities. Additionally, Mahmoud Nagy, Chairman of Assiut Oil Refining Company (ASORC), discussed coordination with ANOPC to ensure a sustainable feedstock supply for the new diesel project and shared successes in raising the efficiency of production units.
Discussions also addressed the state’s plan for the optimal recycling of used oils, with EGPC Vice President for Refining Wael Rizk confirming the corporation’s technical support for safe and standardized operational efforts. Throughout the forum meeting, officials stressed the importance of continuous training and ensuring a safe work environment for the sector’s workforce, which Abdelkarim described as the fundamental pillar of the industry.
