Or in the case of most hotels I’ve stayed in Turkey; wall sockets that just fall out of their wall sockets.
I am in Thailand currently and can confirm this.
In Bangkok the sockets fit both UK and foreign plugs, both fall equally at will.
The intent is there, as for the execution. 😬
Was in South Africa recently, their plugs want a word, and they don’t play!
There’s many things to be ashamed of as a Brit. There’s many things to be proud of. The British plug is just fucking incredible. I can recall as a kid doing something wrong and dad tried stomping out of his bedroom to give me a clout and he stood on an upturned plug, barefoot. Lego? Bollocks, UK three pin plugs is the bona fide daddy of foot killing. Stopped that mother fucker dead in his tracks.
Bless you for your defense of the mildly naughty child, whoever invented you!
Plugs fall out of wall sockets? I’m must be living a sheltered life to never had experienced this.
UK has one of the best electrical safety devices in the world. Wherever else we fall over we are good here.
My German spouse doesnt get it. Not having things constantly on and plugged in
CEE 7/4, Type F has entered the chat.
I think it’s more of a socket quality problem than a plug problem. Standards are meant to be adhered to but not everyone respects them.
Tbf South Africa have the same style, the pins are round instead though so it’s easier to get in
British plugs are the best plugs in the world. It’s a fact of national pride.
Plugs are literally the only thing about this country that makes me beam with pride since we fought the nazis.
It’s crazy to think this is true
Adding to that, the UK standard has a fuse both on socket and plug, and a switch to turn on/off the socket.
I am originally from an EU country, and from someone working with these things, it made working with electronics tremendously better and safer.
Kiwi/Aussie ones are pretty good too.
I tripped over the vacuum cleaner cord and the plug stayed firmly in the wall while I face planted.
Umm from a quick google they look about the same as the ones we use in Aus, except the two top prongs on ours are on a diagonal so the plug and socket looks angry af.
UK plugs are like a mini challenge every time
you know other plugs also have a surge possibility even if they aren’t plugged in.
but superior British standard the Tri-pin, Type-G Socket (even it’s name breaths an air of superiority) no that won’t even by active if nothing is plugged in, it’s just there defiant in the face of the wrath of Zeus himself.
UK on top bois
Isn’t it only american plugs that fall out?
Also UK plugs are also designed to attack your feet. No amount of fuses will make up for that.
It’s just wall sockets with falling plugs, humans still finding new ways to overcomplicate stuff 😂
You think that’s bad. Japan has two different power networks that are incompatible with each other.
With modern electronics it’s not as much of an issue but you used to. But at one time an item bought in Western Japan couldn’t be used in Eastern Japan.
Its true though, our plugs make us the greatest nation on earth.
The top pin (the earth) is longer than the others. This is because the live and neutral holes in the socket are protected by shutters to stop anything being pushed in. When inserting the plug, the longer top pin pushes the shutters out of the way, allowing the live and neutral pins to enter the socket. This also means the plug is earthed before it ever becomes live
The socket has its own switch.
The integrated cable grip inside the plug is designed so that the harder you pull on the cable, the tighter it’s gripped.
Inside the plug is a fuse, and the three wires are specific lengths so if the chord is pulled hard enough to rip the wires from the pins (and you have to pull it *really* hard), they will disconnect in a specific order, live, then neutral with the earth being last.
The live and neutral pins have insulation around the bases to prevent accidental contact when partially inserted into the socket.
They have them in Ireland too. Definitely the safest plugs.
Tbf, they don’t fall out on the continent
Hi electrical engineer here, and I just have to say that the Schucko standard is superior to the old UK brick in every way.
It’s actually pretty and has a very sleek design, it can be plugged into a wall not outside a wall like the UK brick, and we actually use fuses that won’t need fuses in your chords because everything is sized to be safe for use.
And we have the possibility for off-timers for our kettles or coffee makers we don’t need an ugly switch on the wall to be manually disconnected, just press once on a impulse button and voila a programmable timer starts to count down until it switches everything connected to the socket off.
Schuko is hands down better than everything out there, for industrial purposes (3-phase and big amps) we use industrial plugs.
If the socket is over used then the metallic prongs might loose their tension, then you’re supposed to have the socket changed to a new one, that’s the same in the UK.
South African are big from what I remember.
Have to say I was surprised at how angry the shitty US plugs and sockets made me. You pay for an expensive TV or console and it comes with this piece of shit plug that looks like it was made by a 2 year old, to then see it fall out the socket with the merest breath of wind….I was disgusted
I swear all I see on reddit is people loving British plugs. We get it.
Japan has these cools sockets where there is an articulated in that helps secure the plug in place. And there is a business/industrial variant where you push the plug in and give it a 15 degree twist to secure it.
Problem is, some cheap Chinese imports don’t have the holes in the pins to support the pin/twist.
“But but but AKSHULLY our plugs are better because if you leave them lying all over the floor like an idiot, they hurt less if you tread on them, even though they’re still just as much of a trip hazard.” 🥴🇺🇲
Northern European sockets with the recess are sound, South Africa and India among others have 3 pin sockets based on older U.K. designs too.
Can’t say I’ve ever had a plug just fall out in Australia. Much better than EU & US plugs.
Literally never been a problem. U.K just imagining things.
Once while I was hoovering, I yanked the hoover power cord a bit too hard, which resulted in me pulling the socket off the wall.
Again, it’s the last bit of engineering we done in England and we still suck our own dicks over it. Screw the fact everything else is terrible. 3 pin plugs mate!
Also they are sturdy and flush to the wall so when you knock into them you don’t risk either pull them out or damage them.
Literally the only thing in the UK that is still excusable for acting like a national chauvinist over
Type G master race
What the fuck is he talking about? I’m French, and I’ve never, ever in my 37 years have seen a plug “fall out from their wall socket”.
Is that a joke I don’t understand?
I’ve been injured more often by stepping on british plugs than from using european ones
We have to leave then securely in the wall because if you stand on those little bastards barefoot then we go beserk and invade places from the pain.
UKs Type G is cool and all, but the constant reposting of this lie is just very annoying.
Oh you guys really like to circle jerk yourselves with your plugs. The eu plug (type F) literally never falls out of the wall and doesn’t cripple you if you step on it. I’m sorry but it’s superior.

Ive never seen a plug fall out of a plug socket….
What can we do? We are good at socket.

Nothing falls from these guys either

UK plugs and sockets are one of the most fantastically over-engineered items, and they should be a source of national pride.

Australia says “Hold my Fosters sport! Strewth!”
That’s simply not true though.
[Schuko / Type F](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Schuko) doesn’t fall out and it’s the absolute standard in most of the EU.
