A few shoppers and myself were surprised to see this dog tied up in this spot. I am not criticising it, just wondering if this acceptable? Dog was shivering in the cold. Its not unfamiliar to see a dog tied a post or a bin in front of a store, but this looked a bit out of the ordinary.

The owner should be berated, poor little fella
It’s a silly place.
We used tie our dog to a pole or bike rack where he wouldn’t be in the way, and for 5/10 mins while we do the shop.
I hope this fella hasn’t been abandoned, and if not, then it’s just a stupid place to tie him.
Was the dog abandoned? Or did the owner come back eventually?
Might have done it there so the poor wee thing was out of the rain at least?
But yeah that’s pretty ignorant.
The dog is fine, nothing wrong with tying a dog up for a few min while you go into a shop.
It’s just a silly place to tie him, owner needs to find a better spot to do it.
What if someone didn’t notice the poor dog and tried to take a trolley?
If they wanted them out of the rain their are a lot of better alternatives
Nobody should be tying up dogs unmonitored these days. They are frequently stolen and, when little like this fella, can be used as bait dogs. Please tell me you kept an eye on him.
I absolutely despise when people do this. The poor dog
What? Was it barking?
Why block the trolleys

Ah sure, I saw this last year. Paid security and everything. So a chancer had to walk in, be ignored by security and ignore the sign to tie their dog up. Nuts.
U know. That’s animal cruelty mate
Maybe the dog was minding the trolley for the owner. Don’t be so presumptuous /s
Tying up the dog while you go into the shop is commonplace and completely fine.
The dog just thinks “where is the human gone” which is the case wherever you tie him.
Great way to get your dog stolen.
You know why a small dog like this gets stolen, right?
Worth the risk for “popping in for 5 minute”
Not to me.
I hate seeing this happen, particularly since there’s no-one actively supervising the dog. Not every dog is terribly “street smart” and knows how to behave in this type of situation. It’s just unnecessary stress on the creature.
Why can’t they decouple walking the dog and going to the shops into two separate activities?
Not a good spot, but I see dogs tied up outside shops all the time here in Belgium.
It used to be pretty normal to be able to walk to the shops with a dog, tie it outside to get the shopping, dog would wait. But now too many might interfere with, let loose the dog or holler abuse, so it isn’t safe anymore. If I were a dog I’d rather be brought for the outing than left at home, maybe in a crate. This person might still continue the habit, know the area is relatively safe (I hope it stays that way). Of course it depends how long it has been there, though it looks pretty well cared for.
He has that look of a dog who knows exactly how to play his audience.
*”I’m all alone…cold…abandoned…starved, you wouldn’t happen to have a spare sausage on you would you?”*
He’s obviously well cared for so I would only worry that someone would steal him.
You’d swear by these responses that people are getting their dogs nicked at the shop on a daily basis, fucking dramatics.
Unpopular opinion probably but dogs should be allowed into shops. Other European countries like Italy and Spain generally allow it and the dogs get used to it so they learn how to behave and don’t cause any issues. Our local centra lets them in and they’re grand, the sky hasn’t fallen in.
We’re bizarrely anti-dog in this country, loads of pubs aren’t dog friendly, very few hotels will let them stay (and tend to charge massive cleaning fees when they do), no dogs on the luas and bus drivers can refuse them at their discretion even if they’re small and well behaved, we’re way behind the Brits on this where them not being allowed is the exception.
They could have just popped in to buy a carton of milk.
Could possibly be a senior citizen with dementia/Alzheimer’s?
Go on Charleeen go buy him a little jacket you good thing
Call the Garda, this is animal abuse… Small sized dogs do not have the fur/fat/natural resistance for cold weather, even if you take them for a walk extra layers are advised for them … Not to mention the fact it is hindering the business atm
A shout out to Harvey Norman. Was dog sitting and went there with the dog. Especially as not mine would never leave him outside. They allow dogs. Staff were great.
If it was the local shop or central and dropped in for milk sure. If it was for big shop, leave dog at home in crate.
