A clip I took of Eilean Donan Castle which was built for King Alexander II (1214-1249) to protect the lands of Kintail from Vikings. It became a fortress for the Clan Mackenzie & Clan Macrae.
Robert The Bruce took refuge (he was being hunted by the English) at Eilean Donan between 1306-7 after his defeat at the Battle of Methven.
moving on .. Royal Navy Ships bombed the castle in 1719 in retaliation to the Jacobite Rebellions.
You should go see this most famous castle which is a mere 8 miles from Kyle of Lochalsh where you can make your way to the bridge ‘Over the Sea to Skye’
There’s so much more to learn.. here a wee link if anyone is interested. https://www.scottishtours.co.uk/blog/history-of-eilean-donan-castle/

Good work avoiding the enormous car park
Most filmed castle in Scotland?
Well, there can be only one.
I wanted to upvote, because it’s not another bloody drone video
I wanted to downvote, because of the music
But the tiebreaker is: It’s not the Kelpies again. It’s something slightly different. So, in the end, I upvoted
There can be only one… Eilean Donan Castle!
Unfortunately it’s a reconstruction built in 1932.
And it’s not even a real castle. It was built last century. 1932. When you walk inside it’s like being inside a shortbread tin.
Prefer Castle Tioram, the real thing and far enough off the beaten track that you often get it to yourself.
Pastiche re-building project from the early 20th Century.
The best thing about Eilean Donan Castle is that it’s slap bang in the middle of some of the best hill walking in Scotland. Particularly because it’s so accessible for a day out hiking when travelling from Inverness.

It’s better to burn out than to fade away
I remember it on the old BBC1 ident from the ’90s/00s
And the least authentic. It’s basically a 20th century fake.
