  1. Any time “Strategy” is mentioned with regard to Trump it’s hard to look at it as anything more than sane washing dribble.

He cares about his ego being placated, enriching himself and his cronies, and making Obama look bad (basically in that order.) you can explain almost any policy action he takes through that lens.

  2. My god the Canadians are going to absolutely ravage this comment section

  3. But are the Canadians really want to become a vassal state without a fight or at least protest? But how is Trump going to decides other nation’s decision or its sovereignty?

  4. Man read one history book from the 1800s and decided he’s the new Emperor of North America

  5. Most of Canada views America as an enemy rather than an ally, his plan is going great!

  6. Canada is already extremely dependent on the United States. It is a highly asymmetric alliance where it is economically and militarily reliant on the United States.

  7. “We want other nations [in the region] to see us as their partner of first choice and will (through various means) discourage their collaboration with others.” I’ve been wondering if this means the US will discourage Canada’s pivot to increased economic and military collaboration with Europe, now that Europe, or at least the EU, has been painted as an adversary by this document, and wonder, apprehensively, what these “various means” will consist of, beyond tariffs. It is worrying that the pivot away from the US as an act of preservation and protection on Canada’s part, could be construed by the US as a type of hostility.
