We are only really good secure in our current diet for meat and some basic vegetables. A hell of a lot of the stuff we buy in the supermarket and veg shop is imported. Sometimes from across the world.
I think there must be some mistake, the uk imports 50% of it’s food needs.
Can confirm. I’m eating crisp rn.
2020……. id like to see some wheat planted, its going to get messy without that
Time to declare war on Finland.
In the end there can be only one.
Remember when the British tried to say Brexit would cause our shelves to be empty.
Yeah pepmbridge farm remembers.
I wonder when in 2020 it was done, pretty sure it was the 2nd half of 2020 when Brexit started to kick in with the change of imports from the U.K and there was definitely some shortages on food items.
Nothing serious but I do remember flakes for 99’s were gold dust and percy pig sweets couldn’t be got either haha.
This is odd. The UK is not food secure by any measure. Scotland and Northern Ireland are but Wales isn’t due to poor agricultural land and England hasn’t been since the 1800s.
If the UK was cut off from food imports they’d never be able to feed the English population. They never came close to it during WWI or WWII despite bringing a lot of land into agricultural use.
Ireland number one exporter of bananas.
Other countries have inferior bananas.
Food security but if another country wanted to take that food I’m guessing it wouldn’t be very secure.
To be fair, Ireland is a dry arid landscape with no possibility of sustaining its population on its own. /s
Not to bash the us arbitrarily but how are they so high when their food prcess is laden with steroids and GMOs and banned pesticides?
Don’t we import grain to feed cattle and other livestock. Not sure how that makes us food secure.
Why is food such a rip off in the Netherlands?
There’s always a couple of Gardai posted next to my fridge.
I wonder where australia comes on this list. The amount of food insecurity I see here in central Australia is insane.
Food was quite expensive when I lived in Dublin. My Brazilian friends showed where to shop in order save but still quite high. Saw a lot of food insecurity among the displaced as well, most things were out of reach. I love Dublin and will most likely move back at some point but she’s not without her shortcomings. I was surprised by the ranking for sure.
