Lando Norris clinches his first F1 title at season-ending Abu Dhabi Grand Prix • FRANCE 24 English

At the age of 26, he’s become Britain’s 11th Formula 1 World Champion. Born in Bristol, Lando Norris’s interest in racing was peaked at the age of seven after a visit to the British Car Championship. Soon after, he began carting and was participating in national championships from the age of eight. It wasn’t long before he started making the podium. Lando just pipped from second on the last lap. Disappointed. Are you still happy with that? Um, as a reasonable result, it was quite a hard race. Started first, but really I couldn’t do any better. I didn’t want to crash and lose all my points, so it was a good race. Three cart contact spins Lando Norris out of the track. After winning the European Championship in 2013, Norris became the youngest winner of the World Carting Championship the following year. He made the transition to single-seater racing in 2015, and two years later, McLaren had him on their books. Norris made his Formula 1 debut with McLaren in 2019 after completing McLaren’s young driver program. The first of his 11 Formula 1 race wins came at the Miami Grand Prix last year when he finished second overall. During his time on the track, he’s forged a solid friendship with Red Bull’s four-time world champion Max Vsten, who he thanked following Sunday’s race. I mean, it feels amazing, you know. Uh yeah, I now know what Max feels like a little bit and um I want to congratulate Max and Oscar, my yeah, two biggest competitors the whole season. Um it’s been a pleasure to race against both of them. It’s been an honor. I’ve learned a lot from both of them as well. So um I’ve enjoyed it. It’s been a long year. Uh but we did it. We did it. And I’m I’m so proud of everyone. By winning this year’s Formula 1 championship, Norris has denied Vstappen of a fifth consecutive title. It also marks McLaren’s first drivers and constructors title double since 1998. [Applause]
