German pro-nuclear activists make rare appearance in Berlin

  1. So I guess Germany has at least 150 people who really care about climate change.

    Based and good for them.

  2. I’m torn on the issue. On one hand I do support nuclear but on the other hand it’s pretty obvious this sudden push for us to accept nuclear as our lord and saviour in all matters related to the climate is just another tactic in the climate-denial arsenal. I feel like the point seems to be more to discredit all other forms of green technology than to actually push nuclear as a viable weapon in the green arsenal.

  3. Basically this recent article [https://www.welt.de/politik/ausland/plus234677870/Frankreich-und-Polen-Die-neue-Atomachse-draengt-Deutschland-ins-Abseits.html](https://www.welt.de/politik/ausland/plus234677870/Frankreich-und-Polen-Die-neue-Atomachse-draengt-Deutschland-ins-Abseits.html) points out that German green energy projects currently don’t have strong economical grounds without scientific breakthrough in energy storage methods and nuclear energy may be serious competition. This isn’t the first time Germany is using its influence over EU institutions for the sake of its economy. They’ve been keep blocking green energy from Denmark [https://www.reddit.com/r/europe/comments/a1g6bw/germany_continues_to_block_green_energy_from/](https://www.reddit.com/r/europe/comments/a1g6bw/germany_continues_to_block_green_energy_from/) and also lobbying for the closure of coal mines and ban of cars with combustion engines. However, in the meantime, they’ve been pushing hard projects like NS2 based on fossil fuel which emits about 55% of CO2 as coal to generate the same amount of energy. Recently they failed to sign-up phase out of cars with combustion engines themselves. As a word of disclaimer, I’m not against Germany but without nuclear energy which they oppose even in Poland, it’s impossible to meet climate goals and will require Poland to pay enormous amounts of CO2 tax in the future.

I think that the greatest threat to German People are German politicians. As many years ago a german MP Dr Von Berg from then not very popular Green Party said that in 20-30 years Germans will be a minority in their cities and that will be a good thing.

  4. This thread is crazy. I didn’t realize how much Germans hate nuclear. Probably the best stopgap for climate change available to us for the next 50 to 100 years. How can you consider yourself “green” and be anti nuclear?
