Russia rejecting modified US peace plan is ‘exactly what Ukraine expected’ • FRANCE 24 English

No compromise found on the issue of territories. A senior Russian adviser to President Vladimir Putin says the five hours of talks with US envoy Steve Witkov were constructive but added that without movement on Moscow taking parts of Ukraine then there would be no resolution to the war. Russia said talks with the US would continue and accused Europe of amending plans in a bid to block a path to peace. Well, we can cross now live to Ukraine to our correspondent there in Guliver. Greg Guliver. Well, reactions from there. Well, it’s a bit early in the morning to have all that many reactions, but I think this is exactly what Ukraine expected. Vladimir Putin rejected the amended plans that the American delegation presented to him after their talks with the Ukrainians and the Europeans. At least, that’s as much as we can infer from what we know. They did talk for five hours and we don’t really know what the content of that of Putin’s defense advisor said that there were constructive discussions but I think Ukrainians will read that as just Russia trying to stay in some kind of diplomatic process in order to avoid a strengthen of of sanctions a strengthening of Western support to Ukraine when in reality they aren’t really interested in making peace at the moment. They think that they are doing well on the battlefield. Alexi Pananish though, Ukrainian philosopher, this is the one reaction that I’ve seen this morning. He wrote on Facebook that he thinks that Vladimir Putin’s very aggressive declarations yesterday about Russia being ready for war with Europe. And the fact that he made the US delegation wait for two and a half hours apparently in order to show his strength. that’s his tactic that he often uses is actually a sign of weakness, a sign that the Russians are scared and want to seem all the more ferocious because in fact they’re worried about how long their economy and their population can keep up this extremely intense war effort with huge Russ losses that are being inflicted on Russia every day. But that may be an optimistic take. Um the most optimistic uh among Ukrainians are of course hoping that this US delegation, even Steve Wickoff, will have been um annoyed by the Russians attitude by having been made to wait by their refusal to accept any of the compromised plans that they’d worked out and will therefore decide to take some kind of stronger action against Russia. But so far, since Donald Trump came back to power in the White House, those optimists have always been disappointed.

  3. Why would Russia basically agree to a 28 point plan, but then have it rejected by Ukraine for a modified one, and think Russia would not reject it. last time I checked Russia was winning this operation, ukraine is barely surviving.

  17. Russia does not want peace; it wants Ukraine. And then it wants Europe — piece by piece and country by country. In case anyone missed it, Putin made that clear yesterday that he is willing to use nuclear missiles to get Europe. Does it want to live under such fear? If not, then it should not go along with any peace plan that appeases Russia. Rather, Europe should take a stand now when Russia is still weak and isolated. And it should send soldiers to Ukraine as well as weapons. After all, this is really Europe’s war. But it won’t have to help Ukraine alone forever because Trump won’t be in office forever.

  26. Until you stop spreading lies and modifying what will suit Europe then this war will come to an end but now this so called unity of the willing is trying so hard to be valid and thinks Russia is Ukraine

  27. We now hardly get any daily updates in figures on Russian losses on Western media channels instead we hear Russia is losing a lot men. We've never heard of Ukrainian losses.

  33. The EU and the US can gamble on their massive paper economies, but it will only take three days to transform Europe into a barren land of history. They talk big but are so scared that they always need extra pants to stay dry when they hear the name of Russia. Russian resources and the war economy can last forever, even without the dollar.
