For an article that spends a lot of time urging eligible people to get vaccinated, you might think it would take the trouble to spell out [who’s eligible](https://www.nhs.uk/vaccinations/flu-vaccine/).
Ok. I’m off to the supermarket to purchase toilet paper
My partner is immunocompromised, so I got the flu vaccine this year.
I’m currently the last woman standing at work, so far it’s doing its job.
I’ve been on the sofa for 2 days with a fever. It’s grim.
It is not a superflu, standard making up nonsense again. I’ll save you the click, this is all you need to know:
A ‘drifted’ influenza A(H3N2) strain, also now known as ‘subclade K’ or ‘superflu’, is dominating cases.
Yeah my GP keeps pestering my to get the flu vaccine and I never normally get it but I might just do it out of boredom
For the life of me I cannot figure out why they don’t offer the flu and Covid jabs to everyone. Surely the cost of getting everyone to pop into their local pharmacy and get a couple of injections is far more cost effective than thousands of unvaccinated people keeling over in the A&E.
Picked a prescient time to start re-reading The Stand.
Any point in paying for the jab if you’ve already got a bad cold?
I was ill with flu for almost all of November.. it that wasn’t it already then I’m fucked
Sure we’ve had it something terrible over in the North already a while like, it’s nasty and it’ll knock you on your absolute ass. Keep a wee flu kit at home with enough supplies for two weeks and pick a friend to agree to be “flu buddies” with, so then if they get sick you go over and help them out and vice versa.
That the public still don’t take the basic precautions – washing hands (a quick dip under a running tap isn’t washing your hands) – cough etiquette – keeping windows open (especially on humid buses) – getting a flu vaccine – not going to public arenas when you’re symptomatic (there’s a legitimate case when people cite the their jobs, but cinemas, gyms, shops – when you’re spreading a respiratory Virus, is insane).
All this doesn’t make me surprised that flu is spreading so fast.
Guess I left just in time!
Super flu is sensationalist, it’s just flu that has mutated slightly against current vaccines. I work in Infection Control for a London hospital and we have a few outbreaks of Flu A. My hospital doesn’t usually see that much of it but it’s rampant at the moment.
Yeah I got this last week ago and I couldn’t get out of bed from Friday to Wednesday. I’ve got a lingering cough that is absolutely killing me and it’s the most ill I’ve been in years.
Its no surprise that more and more people are getting a bad dose of flu, vitamin D is the best natural way of fighting off or even helping you not catching the flu. We absorb vitamin D through sunshine and the has been a complete lack of that recently. Top up on vitamin D tablets throughout the winter they really do help
Really not a good day to have woken up with a sore throat…
I’ve had a cough and cold for nearly 4 weeks. Thought it was gone and I got infected again. Loads of people ill and events cancelled. I don’t think I’ve got the flu, but there’s sure a lot of bugs in circulation.
I’m on day 7 now and only just stopped vomiting 6 hours ago. It’s absolutely grim. I wasn’t even this poorly with covid
I’ve had the flu jab (I’m asthmatic) but, early November, I was struck down by a bronchitis from hell! It was truly nasty and I had to take antibiotics to shake it off…
Commiseration to all who are being sick at the moment 😢
I travelled back from Leicester to London at the start of November as I was attending a Halloween event up there.
Took the coach back home to London and the next day I had a common cold. Mucus etc. After 3 days it had changed to a dry, tickly cough which normally means the end of the cold spell. This cough was the worst I’ve ever had.
I was left with pneumonia symptoms as my lungs were heavily inflamed from the repeated mucus coughing and still are as I write this. I was given antibiotics by my GP after I practically begged online for them – they’re not taking calls.
Antibiotics were a 5 day course and helped a tad but have now finished. Breathing is difficult at times still…so I need to update them tomorrow.
All I can say is protect yourself people because this shit is bad.
TLDR: Went out to Halloween scarefest, got chased by clowns, aged up to 50yrs old, caught a cold that spiralled out of control and now I can’t breathe at times.
I’ve been feeling like shit past few days. Wonder if this is up North
I’m a primary school teacher and had 10 children off for most of last week plus colleagues! It’s wiped us out!
I think everyone is defo feeling it, I had 1/3 (10 kids) absent from my tutor group last week – same with cover, there was a noticeable absence of teachers last week, even given it being winter and the usual cold related diseases.
Particularly strong strains of various diseases are becoming unfortunately more common. Particularly amongst those with pre-conditions; as a T1 diabetic I basically forced myself into work the whole of last week until Sunday night I realized, I didn’t even have the strength to get dressed because my body ached so much and my blood sugar was going rapidly up and down, mostly down. It wasn’t DKA because I’d be throwing up but it was defo something.
The worst part was somehow I still felt guilty for calling in sick. The most laughable thing was my school recognised it Monday (last week) and their solution was to give out free hand sanitizer and some tangerines whilst still simultaneously having a go at us for not meeting our deadlines, despite, like I said, many departments having numerous people off sick.
And yet you can’t get the vaccine for free unless you’re like 65+, £30 is a lot for a lot of people especially with this cost of living.
We’re doing it to ourselves as a society and we learned absolutely nothing from COVID 19
The one year I decide to not get a flu jab
I started feeling ill Friday, have been on the sofa Saturday – Monday with aches, shivers, overheating and now I have vertigo and I rarely normally get sick.
My toddler and I have had some fucking awful flu for the past week and I’m only just now mostly recovered from it. Still congested, still coughing, my head is still fuzzy but at least I’m not hitting 40 degree temperatures anymore.
And people look at me weird for wearing a mask on the tube! No thanks I will not be sick!!!
I work in urgent care and confirm the number of people coming in with fevers and a cough is absolutely skyrocketing. It’s like Covid all over again but without the masks and social distancing.
Started with sore throat, developed into tonsillitis, also fever, chills, body aches and head pain
Now on antibiotics to get rid of the tonsiltis, on day 5 now and still feel gross
it’s been grim ngl. I think I caught it off a hookup last week, sort of ended up sucking his snot as we made out 😬 worth it tho
I was off work this last week with this. Finally feeling like myself again today. I wasn’t completely knocked out but very tired. Hopefully I’m now immune to it! I hope it works like that!
I had a flu jab in October, but that didn’t help. I am sick thr second time in a two month time frame and it wasn’t pleasant
Captain tripps
I think i may have had it, was in bed for 8 days, 10!days later only just feeling a bit better now, did a covid teat, wasn’t that. Haven’t had flu for years, don’t think it was the common cold, no taste, smell, upset stomach, blocked nose but no sore throat, had both the flu and covid vaccine just 2 weeks earlier.
Unpopular opinion: we should probably go back wearing masks at least when flu waves are peaking. It doesn’t take much of an effort.
