The Season 2 finale of the hit Apple TV spy thriller series Tehran aired on June 16, 2022. It has been over three and a half years since the show was renewed for Season 3, but it was delayed for political reasons. Apple TV has finally announced that Tehran Season 3 premieres on January 9, 2025. Additionally, the streaming service also revealed that the Israeli series will return for Season 4. This news has generated new excitement among viewers who thought they would never see Tamar’s (Niv Sultan) exploits again. Tehran is now among the top ten most-watched Apple TV shows globally according to Flix Patrol, signalling renewed interest.
Tehran is one of several Israeli shows that have found success in the US either as the original version or a remake. However, unlike shows like Bad Boy, the spy thriller explores complex Middle Eastern politics, which is why Season 3 was delayed — at least on Apple TV. The series is a co-production between Apple TV and Israeli public broadcaster Kan 11. The season has already aired in Israel, but Apple TV decided to hold off on the show. The streamer held the show amid the Israel-Palestine conflict in 2023.
“The broadcast date of the third season of Tehran has been postponed with the agreement of the parties following the outbreak of the war. Kan people are in constant contact with representatives of Apple TV Plus regarding setting a new date for the broadcast,” Kan reportedly said in a previous statement. The news of Season 3’s premiere date and production start for Season 4 suggests Apple TV is satisfied with the ongoing efforts to find a resolution. Meanwhile, Jessica Chastain‘s thriller The Savant remains postponed for similar political reasons.
What Is ‘Tehran’ Season 3 About?
Tehran follows Tamar, a Mossad hacker-agent who infiltrates Tehran under a false identity. After going rogue at the end of Season 2 and reeling from the loss of her closest allies, Tamar must find a way to reinvent herself in Season 3 and win back the Mossad’s support if she is to survive. The upcoming season also sees Hugh Laurie‘s debut as Eric Peterson, a South African nuclear inspector. Shaun Toub and Shila Ommi return with Sasson Gabai, Phoenix Raei, and Bahar Pars joining the cast.
Tehran returns for Season 3 on January 9, 2026; Season 4 is now in production. Stream past seasons of Apple TV+ in the US and stay tuned to Collider for more updates.
