California Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) didn’t hold back when he recently used two words to illustrate his thoughts about White House Deputy Chief of Staff Stephen Miller.
Appearing on the Sunday episode of the “Jack Cocchiarella Show,” Newsom declared that Miller is all about “cruelty” and “chaos” amid the dramatic increase in violent Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) raids helmed by Miller and the Trump administration.
Cocchiarella kicked off the topic by pulling up an X post by Newsom likening Miller to Voldemort, the villainous dark wizard from the “Harry Potter” franchise. He then asked Newsom for his “strongest opinion” about Miller.
“I think there’s a cruelty to him,” Newsom said before launching more criticism at the Homeland Security advisor for being a driving force behind the Trump administration’s hardline immigration policies that have resulted in thousands of families being separated.
“Quite literally, people are disappearing — the screams … you can’t unhear what you hear or see in these videos [of ICE raids],” the governor continued Sunday. “Those screams are real.”
Newsom shared multiple stories of children affected by the sweeping raids, including a 16-year-old boy whose parents “disappeared” from the vegetable packing job site they had been working at for 20 years and a 15-year-old boy with disabilities in Los Angeles who was detained at gunpoint by Border Patrol agents.
“That’s Stephen Miller,” Newsom said. “That cruelty is… I feel that, man.”
“So, spare me any niceties with respect to this guy,” he added. “I have nothing good to say about him, period. I don’t know what his motivations are, but the one thing all his actions have in common is cruelty.”
HuffPost has reached out to the White House for comment.
Newsom has lambasted Miller before, scorching him in a September X post.
“Wake up, America. Stephen Miller has already publicly labeled the Democratic Party as a terrorist organization. This isn’t about crime and safety. It’s about dismantling our democratic institutions,” Newsom wrote. “We cannot allow acts of political violence to be weaponized and used to threaten tens of millions of Americans.”
