Hey all. I’m a Pole born in Canada (rozmawiam i pisze po Polsku też) but figured I’d try my luck here on /r/poland as there might be more people in similar situations.
I’m currently in Poland staying in an Airbnb near Gdańsk, having just helped my Polish-born parents move back home four days ago. They’re looking for a permanent home, and my status as their son/IT support is helping see it all through as they’re retired and technology is, in all honesty, hostile to old people.
In my case, my folks had me a few months after moving to Canada and I was born in Toronto. They never gave up their Polish citizenship nor did they ever get Canadian citizenship, so I know I qualify for citizenship by descent. I’m staying with them near Gdańsk until I can help get them settled, so I’ll also have a permanent address and phone number. They’re letting me stay for as long as I need to get all my documents in order and get job in my career in Poland. In the meantime, I have savings and my last job suggested I talk to them when I’m settled here to take on a temporary remote contract, so I’m not going to run out of money any time soon.
So, two Polish-born parents that are alive and well, I’m currently physically in Poland, I’ve filled out the ,,wniosek *wzór wniosku o potwierdzenie posiadania lub utraty obywatelstwa polskiego”* and have all the possible documents and English-to-Polish translations I could need: is there anything else I should bear in mind?
I’ve tried booking an appointment regarding citizenship matters on the Pomorski Urząd Wojewódski website ([https://www.gdansk.uw.gov.pl/dla-klienta/obywatelstwo](https://www.gdansk.uw.gov.pl/dla-klienta/obywatelstwo)) and gave up trying to find a time slot after looking through three years’ worth. Should I just call them and see what they say?

Seems like something s off with the website, you can’t book a date for anything…
If I were you I would call them. Alternatively you could take a train or a bus and go to Another city to get this done.
From what it says on the website I understand that you can book a date but you don’t have to. You should be able to just come here without booking.
You will need your Canadian birth certificate translated into Polish. After that you will need to go to get an official Polish birth certificate. 🙂 funny I know! Lol
I recommend that you would be better off just showing up to the uzrad and wait in line. That’s what I did in Warsaw and I had no problem.
I was renewing my ID lately booking the appointment there. While booking one for ID was available, where were none for passports. I asked the lady and she said “they will unlock dates for next month”, I didn’t see them when booking an appointment to pick up the ID, so the system is weird. BUT when you go to the building I think you can choose any reason for appointment and will be printed a ticket. So you can book an appointment and go for a specific hour (roughly) or just go, choose a reason and wait in queue for a specific reason. At least it looked like it in my city.
