As a Canadian who’s been there a few times, can confirm most interactions with locals make Canadians seem not as friendly
What are the other 2 things we do?
2/ complain when lists are only partially complete
3/ be unable to think about a witty third point
Man I fell in love with scotland there is almost not a single day, I don’t think about it
Greet you with what in any other country would be a horrendous insult. How ya doin’ ya big dobber…
Never forget the Glesga baggage handler, John Smeaton, who kicked the airport suicide bomber (who was on fire) so hard in the baws that John permanently hurt his foot.
That and the guy who got his head stuck in a bin.
That pretty much describes “Scotland” to me.
“People Make Glasgow”.
I’ve just been up there and had several hilarious exchanges with random strangers. They 100% get that shared nonsense is more important than an exchange of facts.
I work in a shop and this elderly lady came up and tried speaking in very limited English, I couldn’t understand what she was trying to say, then after I mimicked what I thought she was wanting, she said “Ho capito” and a lightbulb went off in my head, I was like “Italiano?” and her face lit up and she said “Si!”, and I tried my best to remember as much of my 5th year Italian* as I could (which admittedly isn’t much), “Mi chiamo Keezees, come ti chiami?”, managed to get what she wanted and she left with a smile on her face. Felt good.
*when deciding my 5th year subjects, I only had 2 available subjects for one specific block on a Thursday, Cake-making or Italian. All my mates chose Cake-making, I had a sneaky peek into the Italian class beforehand and saw that it was being taught by this absolutely stunning 21 year old Italian foreign student called Alessandra. I picked Italian.
absolutely true!
It’s all good to say it like that, but he could have done without the heel click and salute
Better than that one grumpy jobsworth border guard at Edinburgh Airport.
Some border force officer is absolutely creaming that someone thinks they’re a police officer.
It kinda pisses me off when I see a German saying how nice people treat them in other countries and tried to speak their language, because that’s never the treatment Germans give to foreigners in Germany

Glasgow airport is an embarrassing shitheap. It pains me that this is a lot of peoples first impression of my country.
Its amzing what just a few decades of telling far right politicians to piss off can do.
Desperation to be like is off outring to most but not Germans I guess
So very true. I’ve never loved a country more. 🥹
Well in this case, we shall ask the questions.
I remember going to a wedding in Scotland as a kid and my dad forgot his cufflinks for his smart shirt.
The only possible shop that might have some was a little antique shop, but they didn’t have any.
The woman who owned the shop phoned her husband and he came straight round with some cufflinks he could borrow.
I’ve spent a fair amount of time in Scotland this year. The west coast.
Mostly Glasgow but also Borders, Dumfries and Galloway. All the people i have met have been friendly, welcoming and chatty.
Get a local train into Glasgow on a Saturday night and you get a real flavour of Caledonia
Conversely I spend a fair amount of time in London for work and last week I was in Ashford Kent. Miserable, anti social cnuts.
I know which side of the wall i prefer to be. The side with the square sausage 🏴
I stayed in Kirkaldy for several months a little over 10 years ago. Everyone I met while out abd about with the cousin that was hosting me was super nice. She took me all over the place, and I didn’t want to leave. XD
