What was once the cornerstone of any Christmas chocolate and often the cause of fights and disdain towards family members for beating you to it, the Cadbury Roses golden barrell is now officially tasteless.

Had my first one of the season and honestly it was genuinely tasteless, hardly a hint of caramel to be found.

R.I.P to a real one.

A damn shame.

  1. Had a wispa the other day and could only finish half. I dread what the christmas chocolate will be like.

  2. Want to hear even worse news? They’re downgrading the cocoa content in Toffee Crisps and Penguin bars.

  3. Cadbury cant say chocolate officially as i understand. They doing away with all the milky goodness. bar stewards.

  4. My kids asked me to throw out a full tub of Quality Street last year. Even in a sugar-crazed frenzy, they wouldn’t touch them.

  5. Can someone explain what’s going on here. Is chocolate gone to shite for some reason?

  6. The caramel in the heroes is much better imo, and the dairy milks are savage

  7. All chocolate is awful now. The Americans bought Cadbury and ruined it. I pretty much only eat the “premium” chocolate from Lidl

  8. Unfortunately they are Mondelez now ! The entire Cadbury range is shockingly tasteless now.

  9. not buying any boxes of sweets this year in protest at the size of them, gone to shit altogether. it’s like watching someone with dementia slowly deteriorating every year they are a shadow of what they used to be.

  10. I refuse to buy roses, heroes, celebrations. Need recommendations- got a couple of toblerones. Read Butlers chocolate, Tony chocolate and mallow chocolate all contain a good % cocoa.

    What are ye buying instead.

  11. If there was funeral for it my parents would be at it.

  12. Is it just greed tho, or is it possible to make nice chocolate and run a successful business lol

  13. The only Cadburys I’d probably still try are the Starbars, you don’t really notice the difference in those (other than how much they have shrunk over the past few years).
The likes of Crunchie and Boost which used to be my fave are just fking horrible now, not forgetting the pink Snacks and Timeout bars which I find tasteless since the chocolate wafer parts were taken out.

Only Aldi and Lidl finest chocolates in our household these days lol

  14. Dunnes simply better milk chocolate is Irish made and 34% cocoa, 3 quid for a 100g, definitely worth it

  15. Please, vote with your wallet. The enshittification of Cadbury started a long time ago when Mondelez bought it. It’s nearing its end stages now, some of their chocolate brands are reaching the point it can no longer be called chocolate anymore due to the amount of cocoa they have replaced with palm oil.

Genuinely, the own brands of lidl and aldi for chocolate are better now. They maintain their high cocoa content with no palm oil additives. The dark chocolate especially is stellar – do not give mondelez a cent of your money, they have ruined your favourites in the name of shareholder returns. Even better, switch to an Irish privately owned company, like Butlers and Lily O’Brien’s, who will never be beholden to enshittification by their shareholders, and the money stays local. Dunnes own brand chocolate is decent as well.

  16. This is my favourite havn’t had one yet, my Christmas is ruined

  17. ![gif](giphy|7A4zkWeMXlZqgnTKtJ|downsized)

I didn’t have any yet this year and was really looking forward to them . I’d always stick them in the fridge and they’d be AMAZING

  18. I stopped with Roses after they got rid of the coffee rose.

Yeah I liked them. No one else did. And they’ve been dead to me ever since.

  19. i dont want to be rude to you OP but

is this news to you really ?

Chocolate companies have been fucking with their formulas for years now it’s getting worse every year

at this point some of them cannot even legally be classified as chocolate anymore due to their low cocoa count

  20. Hang on since when did selection boxes only have mini bars ???

  21. Lads it’s Tony’s Chocoloney or bust. They’ve committed to not reducing their cocoa content just because it’s more expensive now.

  22. On the topic of chocolate, does anyone know any good chocolate brands around? All the big brands are dirt now

  23. I’m still mourning the loss of the Turkish Delight from Milk Trays.

    Bastards.

  24. Really? The barrel?

The Brazilian Darkness was by far the best, and Roses (or anything Cadbury) was dead to me when they got rid of them

  25. Classic British Sweet. Absolute cracker. Will be sorely missed

  26. Go to M&S and buy a tin of Big Mix (their own-brand Roses/Quality Street) – £12 for 1.2kg. Roses is £14 for 700g (that’s from Ocado, because I can’t find the 700g tin anywhere else) – I do note that it’s €20 at Tesco, which is fucking scandalous.

Quality Street’s £12 for 750g (there’s no big tin on [Tesco.ie](http://Tesco.ie) but the 685g pouch is €12, but it’s now half that at Ocado (£5.50 which is €6.29)). It’s better value to buy two pouches over here (£11 for 1.37kg) not that anyone should be buying Nestlé of course.

I worked out that, based on the fact that the average weight of a single Quality Street (9.25g) that the M&S Big Mix should be around 130 chocolates.

I also worked out the price per 100g ,Roses worked out the most expensive at £2 – double Big Mix.

It’s €2.86 per 100g (25% more than over here). Obviously I don’t know how much Big Mix is over there.

Go and get yourself a tin of Big Mix – being M&S, they’ve ***GOT*** to be better than Cadbury or Nestlé – you’d hope…

  27. To an Irish institution, as Cadburys used to be Irish. All their shit is tasteless now. They’re a marketing company now.

  28. I honestly really like Cadburys chocolate. I love a box of heroes 🤷

  29. That’s what happens when you’ve replaced the whole milk with soy milk then to replace the lost fat content they add rape seed oil & compensating for taste cadbury’s pump it full of sugar not even the good stuff we’re talking the glucose syrup kind.

  30. They fucked Roses up. Uses to be elite. Now utter shite.

  31. Oh now , didn’t know that .
I stick to Ferrero Rocher .
I miss their full tray of the dark chocolate they were the best
I don’t like the coconut ones

  32. Was in the brothers house the other day and he had tins of Heros and Celebrations on the counter. Not a big fan of Mars but all the bars actually tasted like what they’re supposed to be whereas the Heroes mostly tasted like unidentifiable sugary crap
