London | A day after Donald Trump decried European decay because of unchecked migration, the continent’s leaders have opened the door to their own Pacific Solution of sending asylum seekers to poorer countries to shut down the people trafficking trade.

Trump’s denunciation of the continent’s “weak” leaders who are too politically correct to get tough on irregular migrants may have been crude. But the message crystallised Europe’s paralysis, as hundreds of thousands of people from the Middle East and Africa enter the continent each year searching for a better life.
