Pierrakakis’ election a day of pride for Greece, Mitsotakis says

Prime Minister Mitsotakis hailed the election of Greece’s Finance Minister Kyriakos Pierrakakis as Eurogroup chief, the assembly of finance ministers from the countries that use the euro, in a televised address.

“Today is a day of pride for our country, for the government, and for all citizens,” he said, congratulating Pierrakakis on his election.

“Greece has proven in practice that fiscal consistency is a prerequisite for improving its credibility. Furthermore, it has shown that, in combination with bold reforms, it can go hand in hand with dynamic growth, that creates jobs and ultimately returns dividends to citizens. This conclusion is useful for today’s Europe, but it is also proof that our country is moving forward with confidence.”

“The election of our Finance Minister to the leadership of the Eurogroup is an important milestone on this path of progress,” Mitsotakis said, adding that it brings more confidence to the country.

“The nation once seen as the ‘black sheep’ of bankruptcy now rises to the top of the economic council of the continent’s most developed countries,” Mitsotakis added.
