Officials with the Special Investigations Unit give an update on an officer-involved shooting that resulted in the death of a 19-year-old man in Mississauga.
A 19-year-old man who allegedly stabbed a family member is dead after being shot by police in Mississauga on Thursday afternoon.
Peel police initially said they were called to a home on Greensboro Drive in the area of Winston Churchill Boulevard and Britannia Road at 2:30 p.m. for a stabbing.
According to the Special Investigations Unit (SIU), which has invoked its mandate, an injured 39-year-old man was seeking help at a neighbour’s home.

Police later learned that the man had been stabbed by a family member in their residence, the SIU said. The victim was soon taken to the hospital.
The SIU said tactical and K9 officers attended the victim’s home and attempted to negotiate with a 19-year-old man believed to be responsible for the stabbing.
“Officers entered the residence, there was an interaction, a conducted energy weapon was discharged, and the man was shot,” the SIU said.
The man was taken to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead shortly after.
The SIU said it has assigned three investigators and three forensic investigators to the case, and a post-mortem is being scheduled.
No subject official has been designated.
The SIU is an independent government agency that investigates police conduct that may have resulted in death, serious injury, sexual assault and/or the discharge of a firearm at a person.
