The truth is most of us like to rattle on about sure aren’t the Irish great if a Brit acts ignorant. But we have endless complaints about Ireland and most of us, particularly as a Dub I would say that we have little interest in our own language and culture.
No doubt this is in part thanks to a very bad education system that teaches an Spailpín Faineach rather than an oral language. There’s also somewhat of a tension with trying to foster a multicultural society as well an Irish one
