  1. Two young Afghan asylum seekers were allowed to roam the streets even after they admitted the brutal rape of a 15-year-old girl, the Daily Mail can reveal.

Despite their horrific crime, 17-year-olds Jan Jahanzeb and Israr Niazal were not remanded in custody by a district judge sitting at Coventry youth court when they both entered guilty pleas on October 21.

Instead, they were separately remanded into the care of social services and left free to wander, with orders to stay at their accommodation between the hours of 7pm and 7am, a decision branded ‘shocking’ by Shadow Home Secretary Chris Philp.

The pair, who brazenly dragged their victim into a secluded part of a public park and raped her, were not placed in youth detention until November 19 – six months after the attack – when they appeared before a more senior Crown Court judge at Warwick for sentencing.

  2. They didn’t write a tweet to annoy officials so not dangerous to roam the streets.

  3. This is one of the reasons why my family and I are moving to Asia next year. This country is becoming a joke.

  4. Not that this isn’t horrific, but I think it’s the bad idea to have a Dailymail account regularly posting here. Far right leaning with no journalistic integrity is not going to help things.

Think my comment is being misconstrued. Absolutely, things like this should be highlighted. But we could chose sources with more rigorous reporting standards.

  5. We need a look at the justice system and ask is that the right course of action for a judge to take. To allow these young men the freedom to roam, after they admitted to a brutal crime

Let’s be honest, they should have been placed on remand, and then sentenced. Letting them roam is a danger to the public, what happens if they did it again? Another slap on the wrist?

We need a large scale reform of the justice system. Send a clear message that we are not soft on crime, you raped someone, off to jail you go. You will receive a maximum term of no less than 50 years, if you think it’s harsh, then you shouldn’t have raped

  6. I thought district judges were only involved in civil and family law? How on earth did this end up in front of a district judge?

My favorite part of this whole article is, “The Daily Mail approached the Ministry of Justice, Warwickshire Social Services, the Crown Prosecution Service and Warwickshire Police for comment.”

They don’t then go on to say that they didn’t respond to comment, which is Mailish for, “They gave sensible, reasoned answers that might disturb our readers, so we’re not going to print them.”

  7. Two afghan paedophiles were given permission to roam free for a month after confessions to raping a child. There, properly phrased your headline.
