Would they take it seriously if it’s just a Reddit account? Where should I email to report this?

  3. its really not that simple, i have a friend from nicaragua and she met a belgian that was on holiday in her country. They fell in love and when she wanted to move with him here they got put in seperate rooms and questioned about the relationship, where did you meet? When did you first had sex and so on and so on

  6. Knowing Belgium, as long as het didn’t do anything illegal, he is free to write and say what he wants… freedom of speech…

    I also don’t think the administration has time to deal with this. Maybe they will just put his/her name in a file and whenever something happens their name will be flagged.

    So in the end, it is always worth reporting.

  14. I think the best thing you can do in this situation is report the post directly to Reddit. They have teams whose job is to deal with this kind of content, and they can look into it properly.

    As regular users, there’s unfortunately not much more we can do. If you went to the police, they would probably just log it and add it to the long list of similar online scams they get every day. It’s really thoughtful of you to care and want to take action, but until an actual crime has taken place, there isn’t much the authorities can do.

    And honestly, I think it’s kind of cute, you’re like the Reddit police ☺️, a little vigilante trying to keep the place clean! Still, reporting it on Reddit is definitely the most effective step you can take.

  15. Agreed he’s scamming one way or another, either for financial gain or to trap a vulnerable person into a ‘relationship’. A real relationship visa application has to have a demonstrable relationship for 2 years minimum, and there has to be evidence, in addition to interviews, visits, and supporting witnesses and the EU citizen needs to declare they will support their migrant spouse financially, if they don’t have a working visa. EDIT: these are handled in the first instance by the local town hall where the application is being made, and is referred to the immigration department in Brussels for approvals.

  17. There’s no point contacting anyone because that’s not how getting a citizenship works. It’s such a pain in the ass and the governments check everything no one would risk trying it with some random person they found online. At best it’s a troll at worst it someone trying to take advantage of someone.

    You could report it to Reddit bc it’s weird but that’s about it

    It’s quite hard to report this if you don’t know who it is. No law was broken by this comment, only by acting on it a law it broken. For example the person could say ‘this is grootspraak, I wasn’t planning on breaking the law’

    When a marriage is requested it is the authority of the mayor and communal services to do an investigation. They will do so together with DVI and the police.

    So currently you can’t do much.

  20. It is really difficult to do it, probably they Don have the minimal requirements to get married. So at the end does matter.
