In a ceremony at the memorial place since Malta became a Republic, in December 13 Avenue in Marsa, the Labour Party commemorated Republic Day, celebrating the 51st anniversary of this national day.

“On 13th December 1974, Dom Mintoff’s Labour Government led to this historic achievement for our country. Since then, a new constitution entered into force and the executive authority has been handed over to the President of Malta as the Maltese Head of State.”

“Prime Minister and Labour Party Leader Robert Abela and the Labour Party administration recalled this historic moment for the country, when we became Republic of Malta with the first Head of State appointed by a Maltese Government. This day not only unites the country but continued to pave the way for other achievements, which continued to pave the way for the Maltese to govern their own country.”
