Yeah nah thanks, if it’s gonna cost the privacy of myself and my family, I’ll not be visiting your “Land of the Free” any time soon.
So what we’ll have US border guards living here?

Ain’t gonna go
Who the fuck wants to go there though?
> US Customs and Border Protection requires a dedicated area with a secondary security check, plus an international border within the confines of the airport terminal. A US-only departure lounge, capable of holding perhaps 1,000 passengers, is also needed.
So what does this mean ? effectively declaring part of Scotland to be American territory ?
It’s convenient when you leave from Dublin
Preclearance sounds very scientology-ology.
Ignoring the generic anti-USA stuff, this would be *fantastic*.
I’ll often fly to Dublin, just so that I can fly to the USA from there and use the preclearance facilities. There is nothing worse than landing in the USA after a 7-10 hour flight, standing in line for an hour, and being grilled by an immigration agent. Maybe even being sent to a second screening, and being paranoid about being deported.
Passing immigration in Edinburgh and landing in the USA as a domestic passenger just makes things so much easier. Especially if you’re transiting to go somewhere else in North/South America, as it means you won’t need to collect your bag, drop off your bag, and go through security again during the layover.
I’d rather deep fry my scrotum.
Nice one saves a trip to Dublin and it can be a hub for western Europe and the rUK.
At least you won’t need to fly back when they deny you entry after finding a JD Vance meme on your phone

Genuinely impressive how some are angered by this obvious good story.
They’ve been saying this shit since 2012. It’s always speculative, there’s never any actual grounds to think it’s coming other than “oh, it would be nice though 🙂”
But then when we go there we have to give username and passwords to social media accounts. No thanks
I can understand why others would be wary, but I’m an immigrant from the US, and our last trip to visit my family was awful (it was my mom’s memorial service so it already sucked, but my husband and MIL had to take two extra days off work, we were *that* delayed coming back) and this would, I assume, eliminate needing to collect baggage and go through security again stateside on the flight over, which took us (well, them, I was sat on a suitcase next to the baggage carousel, after being waived through despite still having a granola bar in my bag… at least the agents were nice that day) almost an hour. It will still be a couple years before any of us feel comfortable to do so though. 🙁
**I would rather Shit in my hands and clap ..**
**Twice.**
Trump can ram it.
Will this make flights cheaper to Edinburgh?
Too bad most people would be sent back because of bald fat jd vance memes
You could put on a free private jet for me and I still wouldn’t go
Consider this: anything good any other country instates for USAmericans right now will be credited to Trump. Quit kissing his ass by proxy. Our (US) government is certainly not being nice to you (you really think this would be mutual? They’d find a way to make it shitty for non US citizens on the US end) and until we get our own house in order, I don’t think we should receive any special privileges.
Hard pass, cheers lads
No thanks.
I lived over there for a while but I will NEVER be back in that ‘shithole country’ ever again. I honestly didn’t expect to see it fall in my lifetime.
I knew it was crashing, but this? Now? I was totally unprepared for actual rapey, paedophillic, fascist, oligarchs being worshipped by the mindless masses.
Making sure my social media reflects my feelings about their democratically elected rapist at all times. Just in case I have a wobble and they consider letting me back in.
Just want them to know I’m defo in the ‘risk to his safety’ column, if given the means and the opportunity. 🤪😂
Oh FFS, not this again. They put this crap out pretty much every year. And there’s been no progress.
Edinburgh Airport is already too small for what it does, and expansion over the years has been woeful. A USCBP would need a new purpose built facility with segregated facilities for US bound flights. My understanding is that it needs a second security facility, a full customs facility, post customs amenities for awaiting passengers segregated from the rest of the airport, and air bridges onto the aeroplanes; all of which will need new infrastructure in the form of a new terminal. Putting people on buses and sending them on a mystery tour around the airfield (EDI’s preferred option to expansion) quite simply doesn’t cut the mustard. It’s also beneficial to build an airside transfer facility. This currently doesn’t exist at Edinburgh.
I’m not convinced that EDI has enough US bound passengers to justify it. Dublin works because Aer Lingus have created a hub. No transatlantic airline has a hub in Edinburgh, and most connecting traffic via Edinburgh probably could have just taken a direct flight.
And this is all before you think about the effects of the current “administration” (and the increasingly hostile attitude of the average American towards Europeans) on travel demand and the appetite we may have for having US border forces on UK soil.
This quite simply isn’t going to happen. Just like it hasn’t happened every other time this daft press release has been recycled by Gordon Dewar.
Aint going to that fascist hellhole for at least another 3 years.
Is this after trump and his government checks our social media posting ?
This has been spoken about for years. It’s not really news but more confirming the ambitions of EDI.
Do we really want this??? I don’t. Pubs will be asking for tips in no time.
It’ll be easy, because nobody who wants to go, will be allowed in
Wonder if that means extra $$$ for stuff here.
Would rather have the fast track to Europe that we used to have, please.
Spend your money elsewhere for a few years. Come to Canada instead. If you come in the summer it’s super hot and sunny. If you come in the winter it’s cold as fuck, but if you love winter sports and that sort of thing it has some fantastic places to go.
“Could”..
Next BS story, please.
Is there any opportunity for us to create a slow-track process for the Americans until they get their domestic nonsense sorted out?
