Secretary of War Pete Hegseth spoke at a sign unveiling for US Space Command at Redstone Arsenal in Huntsville on Friday.

A new sign has been unveiled at Redstone Arsenal, marking the future headquarters of the U.S. Space Command.

Secretary of War Pete Hegseth helped unveil the new sign marking the U.S. Space Command future headquarters on Redstone Arsenal Friday afternoon. It may just be a sign, but Hegseth pointed out it’s much more than that.

“It’s a recognition of a full speed ahead, full steam motion to ensure that we break ground,” said Hegseth. “We move. We build. We move people.  We move capabilities right where it should be as quickly as possible. Because first, it was who controls the skies. Now it’s he who controls the space domain understands what the future of warfare will look like and who maintains that dominance.

All of Alabama’s legislative delegation joined Hegseth at the ceremony, and each emphasized that it took everyone, Republicans and Democrats, House and Senate, to ensure that Space Command would relocate from Peterson Air Force Base in Colorado and find a new home at Redstone Arsenal.

“Your delegation has understood that President Trump understands that we are completely committed at every level,” added Hegseth.

“It brings tears to your eyes because I don’t think a lot of you really, really realize what is going on behind the scenes of trying to get this done the right way,” said Alabama Senator Tommy Tuberville. “We need to step up and put out best foot forward. And Huntsville will do that. Alabama will do it.”

“We know that big things like this happen when local, state and federal leaders work together for the greater good,” said Alabama Senator Katie Britt. “But this community is special, and the men and women of Madison County made sure that you were prepared every step of the way for us to bring this home. Without the foundation you laid, this would not have been possible.”

U.S. Space Command plans, executes and integrates military space power into multi-domain global operations to deter aggression, defend national interests, and when necessary, defeat threats. Hegseth mentioned President Trump’s mantra of “peace through strength” and related Space Command’s new home on Redstone Arsenal as integral in defending the United States.

“We’re looking at rebuilding the defense industrial base, which is what we’re doing right here,” said Hegseth. “It is common sense that this is precisely where Space Command should be. It is common sense that we need to move rapidly and expeditiously, and we will.”

Construction equipment filled the background of the ceremony. Officials indicated they would be moving forward in the near future, and a timeline will be more complete in the coming days.

“We are deadly serious in committing to cutting every piece of red tape and bureaucracy to get this headquarters established as quickly as possible,” said Hegseth.
