The one and only thing I think the USA has done correctly is their (state-dependent) stand your ground laws. There’s no reason that anybody, especially a pensioner, shouldn’t be allowed to leave these guys as a headline on the 10 o’clock news. I’m not advocating for violence but for fuck’s sake they tried to set him on fire!
Edit: I can’t believe it’s actually an unpopular opinion to think it’s reasonable for a 70 year old man to defend himself from 6 people attacking him with bats and trying to set him on fire. What the fuck is with this website lmao

Seems like it was a revenge beating for something to me, not a random robbery or attack? Especially if its in nothern ireland.
The facts available to the reporter sound horrendous and violence is never good.
I would like to understand why this 70 year old man was attacked.

So 5 guys beat a guy in his seventies with bats then set him on fire and he ram outside and they beat him again with bats and he survived. Were they beating him with pool noodles? This doesn’t make sense or thats one tough old fucker.
I feel like there’s a lot more to this story.

Now, I’ve nothing to back that up with but, it just seems like most likely reason a bunch of fellas would go to such extremes on an old man, could have been a number of other things too but my money’s on pervo.
It’s very similar to an attack that killed two people in that area (Keady) about 15 years ago.

Breathe on the wrong pensioner too hard and they’ll drop dead on the spot, your man here had the brakes beaten off him by 6 people, was set on fire, sprinted out of the house faster than his attackers could, then got beaten some more, and somehow lived. Pretty sure there was a woman in the news yesterday from Dublin who was also covered in accelerant and set on fire when she answered the door. 2 in one day is a bit of an odd thing to occur so maybe linked?
