“Near his home” soooooo not on his own property, then? So vandalism? Don’t get me wrong, it’s sad he died, and I’m sorry for his family, but… let’s just say horrible histories would put this in the skit “stupid deaths” for good reason.
This idiot raised over a grand to do it, rather than actively help the local community, and had convictions for violence. He won’t be missed

Lamp posts everywhere are a little bit safer.
That’s so sad. Another life lost to a flag calling
Died doing what he loved
People will raise £1,000 for hanging flags while they watch their own neighbours struggle to put food on their table.
I think there’s an appropriate quote for this situation by Nelson Muntz. The exact wording eludes me at the moment.
Working for free under the behest of millionaires and killing yourself whilst doing so and them not giving a flying fuck about it. Sums up reform supporters really.
Silly games, silly prizes
And they say news these days is all depressing
People near to me are putting up flags on lamp posts and painting mini roundabouts. I ended up talking to one about it. Quite non confrontational. I asked if he could paint some cock and balls on a couple of massive pot holes in the town that had been driving everyone mad. He looked at me for a few minutes, I think gauging if I was being serious or not. He then agreed. 2 days later, no pot holes. I wish I remembered the guys name, as he is in my opinion now a local hero.
at least the hotel botherers are making women safer in SOME ways.
It’s interesting how there are countless videos, articles, threads etc about Darwin awards and people causing their own demise in completely avoidable ways but because he was putting up a flag it has to turn into political pearl clutching.
Quick, how can we blame IMMIGRANTS for this? Erm, the ladder, was that made outside ENGLAND?
A football hooligan you say?
2025 Darwin award winner
“He was widely regarded as one of the area’s most colourful and recognisable characters”
He was a loud mouthed racist – got it.
I must be missing something here, what’s wrong with hanging up your own nation’s flag in a public place? Is it the “public place” part that’s the issue?
If this were the USA & someone was hanging the american flag, nobody would bat an eyelid.
Fafo.
Regardless wether you believe what he was doing was right or wrong, this is a good example of why health and safety is important
I hope someone shouted timber as Mr Lumber fell.
It’s sad that people have been persuaded into that nonsense.
> Paul’s debut publication ‘It All Kicked Off In Bristol’ showcased a cover photograph of him standing in the Three Lions’ doorway, chronicling the incidents that led to him being permanently barred from Bristol City home fixtures.
Charming.
(Paul) Lumber (hanging Union) Jack (flags)
C’mon…..
I call dibs on the ladder seeing as he doesnt need it anymore.
Love me a good ladder.
I’d much rather my tax payers money go to housing an asylum seeker than it go to a fund raiser paid by dole dossers, for a silly twat to put up flags, then cost me MORE tax paying money when he sadly passes away.
Am I the only one disappointed he was a painter and decorator and didn’t take his nominative deterministic profession as a plumber?
Even the ladders are sick of this flag bullshit.
I’m sure he lit up a room when he walked into it. What a massive loss to humanity
“A real fallen hero”
