TLDR; residents of the centre of Ennis would rather a large derilect site be used as a car park, rather than housing. As they fear that housing will bring “anti social behaviour”
Pure NIMBYism.
Fuck them, build the development
> fight to the last
It doesn’t look like we’ve long to wait.
Every single person in that photo looks old enough to have grandchildren in the generation they’re actively screwing over.
This has great “angry people in local papers” vibes.
Look at them mean-mugging the camera, crossed arms and all.
If the traffic is so bad, how are they able to stand in the middle of the street?
That photo really doesn’t help their cause
>The residents believe that the lands would be an ideal location for a car park facility for the town, or housing for older people.
JESUS FUCKING CHRIST THIS MAKES ME ANGRY!
Seriously, they’re straight up saying “This isn’t being built for us so we don’t want it built.” How can anyone be so selfish?
Standing in front of a line of boarded up houses. Couldn’t make it up.
Yeah these cottages behind us that are boarded up are part of our heritage of keeping people out of House’s.
It’s infuriating (I say this as a person with a home) to see empty buildings, vacant houses, derelict sites and think, no KNOW, that with proper design they could be regenerated/developed into 1, 2, 3 bed flats/apartments and STILL match in with surrounding buildings.
I’m in Dublin and pass so many of these places every day. Have to say I hate the glass boxes being stuck on top of old redbrick buildings.
Someone in power has to just step up and say we’re building, so get fucked.
There is merit to building smaller dwellings for older people to downsize to, I’ve seen it in older estates around the city, people raise their families, those kids move out and then they live in these big houses that eventually grow too big for them to manage.
I’m going round in circles here, I see all sides, believe we should preserve our built heritage as much as possible, renovate our old factories and warehouses and create cool spaces to live, build housing estates in areas with great transport links and amenities for people that want to live in places like that and do all of this with speed.
god forbid we develop the shannon area and make it attractive to young people.
Your man far left Is giving I do what I want vibes
Do these people have any education and common sense at all?
The actual scum of this country are those who oppose development. A lot of the problems we complain about in this sub go a long way to be solved if we had more apartments, more bicycle lanes and more public transport systems.
The very fact that these things are constantly halted by a money rich and time rich demographic is disgraceful.
Same old story, and people say its not us V them. We should have let covid run rampant. /s
Ok, boomer
Average house prices increased by 15% last year alone. It is generally accepted that increasing your housing stock by 1% will reduce prices by about 1-2% all else being equal. 1% of our housing stock is 20000 units. In 2021 we had about 20000 completions. So before seeing any reduction in prices last year we would have had to completed about 160000 extra units. People who think they can build their way out of this mess are crazy.
Gutting regulations and then accusing everyone of NIMBYism doesn’t help. But it does provide a lot of hack journalists with some easy clickbait. People who read these articles and believe they have any meaningful effect on house prices are stupid.
None of you cunts are gonna sell your house….fuck off
They say there’s too much traffic already and at the same time they want a car park. Do they not understand that will lead to even more traffic?
So people here complain about every single development?
I walk past this dump daily for almost two decades now.
Do they seriously want to have more car parking spaces?
The multistory in the town center and the other one in Dunnes are never at capacity (unless it’s a major major event like the Fleah).
They seriously would prefer noise and emissions pollution over giving folks a place to live?
*screams into the void*
I’ve had my House, and that’s all that matters.
This is why people should have no say over the planning system.
Fuck these old cunts, build it ! We need housing for fuck sake, nothing but screwing over the younger generation and younger families in this country I am so sick of it
Bunch of selfish cunts should get fucked.
Bitter old cunts. Nothing more nothing less.
We got ours. Pull up the ladder.
Boomer NIMBYs: younger people get fucked. We want to live our remaining 10 years without any inconvenience to our once-in-human-history comfort.
Drumbiggle wouldn’t be the best location surely for a housing development or has it improved in recent years?
An apartment building that is a while five storys? Terrible, before you know it they’ll have us all in the mega blocks from Judge Dredd.
I know Ennis well, and despite a great location (close to the centre and the Market Square) it is dead. The only activity is skobes in their mid-30’s drinking cans of Druids and bottles of Linden Village, smoking joints.
Ennis is crying out for some modernization in the form of digital or shared working spaces. These NIMBYs can fuck right off.
If I was a resident in their area I’d set up a petition welcoming the developent our of spite of these ignorant fossils.
