  1. We can’t, but the police do, every time they actually bust them. Three gone down in my small town in the last year. Two “off license” type places too, for dodgy stock (mainly cigs).

Everyone knows someone who has struggled to keep a shop-front small business open in the last few years, despite steady customers. When you see these places open all hours with no customers going from strength to strength, whilst other shops close down left right and centre, you know something’s up.

  2. Ours have been there for nine years, they’re an important part of the highstreet, and they do a good job

  3. For me it’s those American sweet shops that always has someone stocking shit, but no-one buying anything

  4. It’s insane how Westminster Council allows the “American Candy shop” all down Oxford street when it’s so blatant they’re money laundering and probably linked to the heroin trade.

  5. My Turkish barber gave me a Turkish tea, back rub and called me ‘baba’. This is ON TOP of getting the same consistent hair cut that I would ask for, regardless of who actually gave me a hair cut so no, I don’t see any money laundering here. Its probably the Americans sweet shop down the corner mate

  6. Have you considered that most of them are probably just normal barbers? The ones around me are always busy I’m often waiting for a cut– this will get downvoted because of the reform bots and echo chamber effect but this whole unoriginal post is underlined with racism– foreign barber? defo money laundering!

  7. The money laundering I can forgive. The introduction of the fade I cannot.

  8. I’ve never been to a barber who takes cards….. Always cash.
    Not just the Turkish ones

  9. I dunno but I’ve never had a bad haircut at one, so I don’t care. Go after the billionaires

  10. The reason they thrive on the high street is because Amazon has not yet devised a way to deliver haircuts in the post. They do a good job, work hard and I’m surprised otherwise liberal people seem to be so cross about it.

  11. Some are, some are just barbers and are super popular especially with older teens.

  12. On what basis are they accused of money laundering? The one I go to is always busy. People walk past and it happens to be quiet and they assume it’s like that all day every day 🥴

  13. Phone repair shops too. One by me that has been there for years and has a window display full of cases for 10 year old iPhones. Never seen a single person in there other than the two guys that run it.

  14. I’ve never seen this mentioned on Turkish barber posts, but effectively turkey has different specific immigration rule to gain UK status, more specifically and ECAA Turkish businessman agreement.

‘In order to qualify for a Turkish Businessperson visa under the Turkish EC Association Agreement (‘ECAA’ or ‘Ankara Agreement’), you will need to satisfy UK Visas and Immigration that you are a Turkish national and:

You have a genuine intention to set up a viable business…”

  15. Never mind Turkish barbers, I have the same thought every time I pass a bloody superdry! Always a massive store, always a prime location, always fully stocked, never anybody in one

  16. We all knew takeaway employees were grooming teenage girls, that’s a more important discussion..

  17. Wait until they find out how much tax Billionaires don’t pay!

  18. To be fair, you’ve never seen a Friday night clearly near those places, or a Saturday. It’s bedlam

  19. The Turkish barber shops are always busy round our way. I bet they’re gutted!!!!

  20. I once had an extensive conversation with a former defence solicitor, turned member of the local council’s fraud department, who said that money laundering is massive with those businesses, but neither to council nor local police have the energy or time to do anything about it at that time. He listed off Turkish barbers primarily, but also some of the mini-marts, and a few other businesses around here.

Now, this was a slightly inebriated middle aged white guy. Our council has also changed hands n I’ve no clue what he’s still up to. Reason I include that is because it could’ve somewhat racially motivated for him to talk about it as long as he did. However, it was a bit of a wake up call, AND the amount of work that has to go into catching them is massive sometimes.

  21. The Turkish barbers around me are always busy. But I don’t think I’ve seen a single person enter any of the tanning salons in my life, but nobody is up in arms about those….surely it can’t solely be because they’re not British, can it?

  22. There’s a relatively new small dessert parlour opened on my road – been there for about 6 months now and never seen a single customer go in there, but there’s always 5 or so “staff” sat on one of the two only tables or behind the counter. I always joke to my partner it’s a front every time we walk past.

  23. Amazon, Facebook, Google, Apple, Microsoft X, etc all avoid paying tax from their billions of UK income, but let’s focus on Turkish barbers? Look up, not down…

  24. Vape shops that are lit up brighter than the sun and their furniture is made from white kitchen units.
Barber shops that have more bling than a Dubai mall.
Mini-marts where the windows are blocked with bright coloured film showing items you can buy and advertising Lebara.

Raid them all. Shut them down. Plus cash only establishments. Cash is ok ofc, but cash only? No.
