Carbon capture was spruiked as a way of limiting our emissions – but has Australia been greenwashed? Despite billions in investment and backing from the federal government, carbon capture and storage technology ‘should be in no way treated as a climate solution’, critics say.

1. It was always an exercise in greenwashing by fossil fuel companies. Just like how plastic recycling was pushed by plastics manufacturers. It’s the same playbook. Offer a solution that doesn’t involve reducing the production of planet-destroying materials. The fact that this solution doesn’t work isn’t the point. You can still pretend like it’s the way forward and use it to deflect any criticism.

   “Clean coal” is in the same exact league.

2. At somes point, newspaper only starting to question things as obvious as this with a 10 to 20 years of delay participate into greenwashing.

   CCS as been a scam from the fossil fuel industry from the start, period. It is known for over a decade.

4. Well in Alberta the CarbonMafia will get Government incentives to carbon capture but it’s not for sequestering, it’s to pressurize the oil wells to get more oil out, adding more carbon to the atmosphere. How’s that for corporate socialism.

5. It is a simple “climate solution”. Just add the full cost of CCS or DAC to the source of the emission.

   It does not matter if the CCS facility currently exists. The revenue needed for DAC can start being collected *now*.
