Austria introduces lockdown for the unvaccinated

  1. It has so many loopholes it’s pretty much meaningless. That and a high proportion of the Austrian population seemed to have been dropped on their heads as babies. Full lockdown for everyone incoming in an attempt to rescue the ski season.

  2. I wish my government would do the same. Pressure the unvaccinated into actually giving a shit for society and take the fucking jab.

  3. The ordinance was published last night and came into effect a few minutes later. Plenty of chaos ensued, because there actually were some surprises in there.

  4. The whole strategy is disgusting, its effects are disgusting and it is disgusting how easily people fall for this kind of demagoguery. If a high vaccination rate is the goal you can do this with other measures as many other countries have shown, the way the Austrian government is handeling this is unacceptable.

1.) This is not about protecting people this is about increasing the pressure on people to get vaccinated. The government said so itself and the chancellor reiterated it this morning.

2.) If you claim that you let people have a free choice on what to do you can’t punish them heavily for their choice.

3.) As a lawyer I think it is shocking how the government is governing. All their actions right now are clearly unconstitutional. But they don’t care because they know that the constitutional court can’t/won’t do anything about it in the short term (maybe in 6-12 months). This is how they have been governing since the pandemic started and it is getting worse and worse. An overwhelming majority of the fines collected last year were collected on unconstitutional grounds but because of a technicality (if you pay a Organstrafverfügung immediately there is no recourse) people lost their money.

4.) What is even worse is that the most unvaccinated population are children and young people. They have the least risk for severe illnesses. Even children are being targeted, who can’t even (not even legally) decide for themselves. “Want your child go on a school skiing trip or not be ostracised…..well get your child vaccinated”. Even children are talking about the vaccine and asking people (parents and people their parents invite) if they are vaccinated. “Want to go to university (one university is already 2G; medical university have been for a while now) or have the social life a college student usually has after being locked up for a year to protect the elderly and risk groups……get vaccinated”.

5.) The government is using demagoguery to cover up its own terrible pandemic managment and false promises. They said that the pandemic is over many times and they need a scapegoat. That scapegoat are the unvaccinated. Classic demagoguery. And of course it is working. I have even seen people hurle the most disgusting insults at people (started or followed with “Get vaccinated”) getting tested because they assume if you line up there you are not vaccinated.

    Edit: spelling

  5. I think this is a bad idea to segregate people and force them to say home for chosing their right not to vaccinate. The law have some holes, like what about people who haven’t had symptoms but were later tested to have antibodies… They are not treated like convalescents then.

  6. Disgusting. Literally apartheid for something they call “voluntary”

Either show balls and make it mandatory, and accept all consequences, if it is truly needed, or let people actually choose as befits concept of “voluntary choice”

  7. It says that in Wien, “To enter bars, clubs, cultural events, or cinemas, a PCR test is needed in addition to the proof of vaccination.” Are PCR tests free for residents?

  8. > To enter bars, clubs, cultural events, or cinemas, a PCR test is needed in addition to the proof of vaccination.

I thought it was either 2 doses or 1 dose + PCR?

  9. Predictions for 2022 travel, get 100 boosters including at least one shot from each company pfizer, moderna, sputnik etc, get PCR every hour, you need PCR in order to make PCR.
