A highly unusual situation has emerged at Selecția Națională 2026, Moldova’s national selection for the Eurovision Song Contest, as two different artists are competing with the same musical composition.

More specifically, Dana Marchitan and Katy Rain have both qualified for the competition with the same song, presented under different titles. Dana Marchitan will compete with “Cry”, while Katy Rain enters the contest with “Dance & Cry”, despite both entries being based on the same composition.

This situation does not breach the rules of the Moldovan national selection, as there is no explicit regulation preventing the same music from being submitted by different performers. Nevertheless, it remains a rare occurrence, particularly in national finals, where each competing song is typically unique.

Both entries will be presented as scheduled during the Selecția Națională 2026 auditions, with attention now turning to how this unusual case will be viewed by both the jury and the public.

A total of 36 artists will take part in the live audition stage of Selecția Națională 2026, the process through which Moldova will select its representative for Eurovision 2026. The live auditions will take place on December 16, while the final is set to be held on January 17 at the Chișinău Arena. The national selection jury will consist of 20 members, including five international jurors and 15 Moldovan jurors. The winner will be determined by a combination of votes from the international jury (33%), the Moldovan jury (33%), and the public vote (33%).

Moldova will return to the Eurovision Song Contest in 2026 after a one year absence, beginning its new Eurovision journey with a refreshed national selection process.
