Division of Kaliningrad

  1. The real division of territory Russia doesn’t want to talk about

  2. Does anyone in Poland actually want Kaliningrad tho?

  3. Nope, nope, nope, do you want an ‘oppressed’ Russian minority, because that’s how you get it

  4. Tons and tons of Russians in a run down, Soviet style city with most of its history erased just to gain a bit of land. No thank you.

We should, perhaps, ask if the people of Kaliningrad want independence from the RF and seek closer integration with the EU, if it comes to the point that Russia falls.

  5. Thing is. The land was under Lithuanian governance in USSR. And once the USSR collapsed both Poland and Lithuania were offered Königsberg, but rejected it due to that 1 million Ruzhist KGB and military personal stationed there would seriously ruin any demographics, especially Lithuanian demographics. Rather have a bit less land than 1 million Ruzhists in your nation.

EDIT: Probably best to make it a free state of Königsberg. Go through the whole plan of re-educating the people there WW2-Germany style

  6. fuck this land, no one wants the secondcoming of podlasie, but even more poor

  7. It was a nice city, but soviets destroyed it’s whole history. Russians somehow made one of biggest and richest regions of former German Empire, and Polish Lithuanian Commonwealth, a shithole. As sad as it sounds, soviets destroyed everything amazing in it, I don’t feel as we need it anymore

  8. Literally nobody wants Kaliningrad because it’s a shithole and full of Russians

  9. AFAIK Lithuania was proposed to have it all at some point. They said no.

  10. Many people say no. But it is investition in future, you never get good stuff for free, you need to make it yourself or pay for it.

  11. Annexation would be a terrible idea but I wouldn’t mind Kaliningrad joining the EU if Russia implodes.

  12. I wonder who post stuff like this.
Russian trolls to hype pro war moods in Poland? Maybe polish nationalists who played too much hearths of iron and call of duty cause “war is so fun haha “.

  13. Who the hell wants a part of that shithole. Only trouble

  14. Could be critically important sea access for the Liechtenstein navy.

  15. no no no, it’s extremely poor, ugly and full of Russians. if Russia dissolves, only taking the rest of Mierzeja Wiślana is up for debate. but it probably won’t, so making it a democratic EU country is also unrealistic

  16. It doesn’t matter who takes it, can even be the free city of KaLewBerg as long as it’s not a threat for Europe. I really wonder what was in their minds when they allowed russians to take it.

  17. Partitioning another country should be abhorrent to any Polish person with an ounce of historical knowledge.

  18. Why not make it the free City of Kaliningrad/Königsberg being a neutral international zone

  19. Kick out the Russians and let Poles worldwide come back and settle it again lol

  20. Realistically, I would like to see an Independent Prussian state. Surely there arent any Pruso-Germans or even antiquity Prussians, but the region could still function independently. It already functions mostly independently from Russia. I think an all out new country would be better than incorporating it into any other state. Prussia’s history is unqiue, being divided among German christians and Baltic indigenous people, I think kids there should be learning THAT history, not the history of Russia or Poland. Lithuania is the closest group related to antiquity Prussians, so maybe they could help facilitate this. I feel like adding a new baltic country with a rich history would be much better than divide after conquering.

  21. I don’t think Poland or Lithuania would want Kaliningrad. It would be simpler and less stressful if they just set it up as a state separate from Russia. Kind of like a Russian equivalent of Germany and Austria except without the land border.

  22. Yhh. As a part of the Western civilisation, we really should know better than that – annexations of foreign land and massive resettlements are something that simply must not happen in the 21th century. Enough.

Helping the local Russians estabilish an independent and democratic “Russian Taiwan” there would be a totally different thing though.

  23. Why in the world would we want this poor piece of land full of Russians? We don’t want their land, we just want them to stay away from us and mind their business.

  24. I don’t get why everyone is talking about the russians there being a problem. Like, just deport them all like the Germans?

  25. Heh, hello from a Königsberg resident. There is 1 difference between Königsberg and the mainland, people come here in the hope of change. Unlike most regions of Russia, small / medium-sized businesses and agriculture are at least somehow developed here, which is killed on the mainland. The vaunted “import substitution” is complete nonsense, all they could do was re-stick the tags from Chinese to Russian and cut the budget. Although this is already evident in the second army of the world.
Although there is one of the main problems, all significant / cultural places are owned by the Ministry of Defense, and this is tantamount to complete neglect and devastation.
The second reason is the government’s fear that all appointed leaders are not from the local population, which also does not bring adequate development to the region.
In the realities of the collapse of the system, it would be quite a good option for the city to steel freely / commercially, as Gdańsk once was and kick out all the military (~ 40% of the population) that are not needed here.

PS Kaliningrad, as the name of the city, really sounds disgusting.

  26. I would give the entire region to the ethnic group of Europe that does not have a country – to gypsies. Move all from balkans and make Russians and gypsies cohabitate. Then buy popcorn and watch.

  27. Kaliningrad was offered to both Lithuania and Poland numerous times, yet neither accepted it. Why? Well neither country wanted it, becasue the USSR moved so many Russians in the area it would just cause problems. Its like trying to absorb northern ireland into ireland. It may be on ireland, but it’s too damn British, and will cause problems

  28. Same as Finland not wanting their ceded lands in Karelia returned. Too much of a social and economic burden to take on.
