  1. *Submission Statement:* An LNG carrier from Russia’s Portovaya plant delivered 160,000 tonnes of gas through China’s Beihai terminal on December 8. This was the first export from Portovaya since sanctions were imposed on the plant at the beginning of the year. Despite the sanctions, China has increasingly accepted Russian LNG at significant discounts. This move strengthens China-Russia energy ties and demonstrates the CCP’s willingness to defy U.S. influence. With Europe planning to ban Russian LNG by 2027, Russia is looking to ensure its energy routes remain open, even if the exports are politically symbolic.

  2. China was not overly enthusiastic on Power of Siberia 2 so if Russia want to ship product from Yamal and European Russia they will literally need to ship it. Having said that PoS1 is only seeing 60% utilization, European product must have been sold at a heavy discount on the spot market.
