Having literally just watched it it’s a lot less Christmassy than I remembered
Apparently the recent vote as to whether Die Hard is a Christmas movie was completed by asking the Great British Public. Anyone who has met the GB public will know that a lot of them are idiots.
Hot take, if Die Hard isn’t a Christmas movie because it could take place anytime of the year, Home Alone is also not a Christmas movie.
No idea how you can claim it’s not. Christmas is at the very centre of it
Both the first and 2 films end with a literal Christmas song as the credits roll. It’s a Christmas movie.
Facts.
It’s set on Christmas (with some awareness/acknowledgement) but Christmas isn’t the theme…
Why are you booing? He’s right.
Die Hard has to happen at Xmas. You need a significant reason for John to visit Holly, more than just a kids birthday or July 4th, something everyone can relate to as a time for families. You need a reason why police can’t be bothered to take things seriously and for there to be less people around, holidays everyone checks out from work. You need a reason why the Nakatomi is empty sans workers or construction and why everywhere else nearby isn’t around and they can use a manageable amount of people has hostages and who might be drunk and won’t try and be a hero. But they weren’t planning on John McClane.
What annoys me about this conversation we have every year is that I haven’t ever heard anyone say it isn’t a Christmas movie.
Office bores love this icebreaker!
The type of people that argue about this are the same type of people that use the word ‘cockwomble’ as an insult.
I like die hard but man im still surprised this discussion is still being had. We were talking about christmas movies in work the other day and a guy was like “oh yeah die hard is my favourite” and then was just waiting for someone to say something so he could explain how die hard is a christmas movie.
No one said anything, but that didn’t stop him from doing it anyway.
Die Hard and the first Lethal Weapon are Christmas movies. There really is no discussion to be had on the matter.
A Xmas. Or, an Xmas?
A Christmas movie is obviously correct, as apposed to, an Christmas movie.
🤔
I feel that the “is Die Hard a Christmas movie?” discussion is so fucking overdone.
The debate over whether or not die hard is a Christmas film is like the debate over whether Jaffa cakes are biscuits or cakes. That is to say, interminably dull debates that keep boring people busy.
Any movie set at Christmas or with an emphasis on Christmas is a Christmas movie
And like small villages everywhere its a couple of decades behind the times. In about 10 years, tney’ll hear Gangnam Style there for the first time and the place will.be bouncing for weeks
Funnily despite being set around Christmas time and many being adamant it is a Christmas movie, Die Hard actually released in July.
100% accurate
I hate the “die hard is a Christmas movie” personality people.
This is totally wrong and I will not stand for it.
Die Hard is AN Xmas Movie
But who is actually arguing that it isn’t?
At least make your hot take something that isn’t near universally agreed upon.
The Princess Bride is a Christmas movie
Can we just fucking not please
Nobody ever said it wasn’t, these types of people just started defending it for some reason.
I wish this meme had stayed frozen in that cloyingly twee, millennial era of the Internet where it belongs, when bacon and moustaches were a personality trait and Socially Awkward Penguin was still explaining all of our feelings.
Not getting drawn into the silly debate, I just like the cuppa tea or bog roll in the “vent” 😁
well it is. die hard two has snow so it’s also a chrismas movie.
die hard 3 is a heist movie
die hard 4 is 90’s esq b-movie with explosions
die hard 5 is part of the bad action movie saga. (rambo 5, expendables 4, escape plan 2 & 3 and a few others i can’t remember right now)
Let’s not forget Lethal Weapon, another Christmas classic 👍🏻
The annual argument about Die Hard being a Christmas movie is as boring as the ‘does pineapple belong on pizza’ debate.
Nice of them to advertise that they don’t have an original idea in their heads.
Everyone’s still het up about *Die Hard* meanwhile no one has the time to acknowledge that *Stop the Cavalry* is not a Christmas song.
There’s seasonal movies and Christmas movies, Die Hard is a Christmas movie. Mainly because Christmas itself plays a big part in the plot in terms of the xmas party and such.
Lethal Weapon and First Blood are more seasonal films, set on or around xmas but it doesn’t play a huge core role in the story other than setting.
Batman Returns is an xmas film, Go from 1999 is a seasonal film. Both set at xmas but one has a core xmas based story the other is less so, you can completely take out the xmas stuff in Go and it wouldn’t change anything other than vibes haha, That’s how I think about it all anyway.
