Bulgarian law forbids commenting on the election results before the polls close, leading to interesting weather reports.

  1. We have similar law in Poland but we do “farmer’s market” before the elections.

For example last year’s presidential elections we’re given with foods. First was Duda as pudding and price, Trzaskowski as jam, and Hołownia as lemons lol.

  2. We had that too, with horse races and cardinals in conclave, before the government decided to make the ban stricter…

Edit — Actually ours were more related to polls in the days leading to the election rather than projections on the election day itself, but the idea was the same.

  3. [Max and Moritz: A Story of Seven Boyish Pranks (original: Max und Moritz – Eine Bubengeschichte in sieben Streichen) is a German language illustrated story in verse. This highly inventive, blackly humorous tale, told entirely in rhymed couplets, was written and illustrated by Wilhelm Busch and published in 1865.](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Max_and_Moritz)

I’m glad to hear that Max and Moritz are still alive after all these years and apparently now pulling pranks in Bulgaria.

  4. I imagine OFCOM would slap the life out of any channel that tried that in Britain. I’ve gone to parties in the past, centred around the closing of polls and the announcing of the exit poll results. It works both ways, since you’re either in the mood to celebrate or in need of a stiff drink.

  5. yeah in Spain is similar, with fruits. But not on serious traditional media (It’s not worth a trial), only internet.
Some traditional media groups with press also in other countries just publish it there, and refers online about that publication on the national without any link.

  6. What’s the point of such rule? Here in Estonia we don’t have it and media freely report election polls and results throughout the whole election process(often in realtime as they are being counted) and I don’t see any issue with that.

  7. In Poland we have same rule and while media obey there are leaks on twitter but using “prices” from “farmers market” using colour schemes of parties like PO has orange colour so it’s price of orange 👍

  8. This is hilarious but I do think the rule should be enforced. Early results can depress voter turnout and alter the results of the election.

  9. Kind of similar thing happened last year in Belarus with so called “elections”. Because any polls prior to the “elections” were banned at all one media made a poll in their social media “What movie do you prefer?” with real movie names relating to certain candidates
