Santa events take place across the world ahead of Christmas • FRANCE 24 English

[Applause] Around 5,000 people laced up their sneakers, dressed head to toe in bright red, and took to the streets of Kosovo’s capital on Sunday. The annual Santa Marathon marked its 10th year, raising money for families in need. I’m extremely happy. Besides the fact that it is a very special event, it also has a humanitarian aspect in helping others. That is why I felt really good when I decided to come here. In recent years, Santa runs like this have grown, becoming a staple of Christmas celebration in cities around the world. Red was the color of the day in southern Paris on Sunday. And in Mexico City, where even dogs join the festivities, earning medals of their own. It’s not so much about competition though, but about celebration, bringing together tradition, charity, and exercise. In Budapest, runners braved freezing temperatures for the annual half naked Santa Run, stopping for push-ups to stay warm. But it wasn’t just raises this weekend. In New York City, thousands gathered for Santa Con, the annual charity bar crawl. Santa Con is a wonderful thing to happen. It’s great. Lots of people getting into the holiday spirit. And in Kanagawa, Japan, children even got the chance to meet the real Santa Claus. Paradise Yamamuto has been officially recognized by the Greenland International Santa Claus Association since 1998.

With less than two weeks to Christmas, Santa runs and festivals are spreading holiday cheer across the globe this weekend. From Paris to Mexico City and Romania, and even bar crawls in the United States. In recent years, Santa runs have grown, becoming a staple of Christmas celebrations in cities around the world. These events are bringing together fitness, fun and charity in family-friendly celebrations.
