The terroism screening of the man from Par-Kee-Starn was pretty funny tbf.
“I only like English food like Pizza and Chinese” 😅
It was on when stereotype-based catchphrase comedy was already on its way out, so the tired format (and reliance on outdated stereotypes) is likely a large part of why it isn’t remembered as fondly as, say, The Fast Show.
Because it was shit, same as everything pad the first series of little Britain. It was about as funny as mrs browns boys
Only 6 eps? Really? It felt way longer than that like Mr Bean did
When it came out, I thought it was absolutely hilarious. Used to like watching the real airport documentaries (the ones with easy jet cancelling flights left right and centre and customers screaming at staff non stop) so this slotted in nicely with that. I was probably mid-teens at this point.
Looking back, however.. it’s absolute dog shit. Even ignoring the blatant black-face and other racist comedy… the jokes are fucking awful. The Martin Clunes bit with the two Japanese school girls where they just sing his name and make some vaguely Asian noises… like, where’s the fucking funny part????? The Scottish kid who works the burger stand was a good idea.. some half decent jokes (like when he’s promoted but still has his supervisor to hand) but the whole concept of “I live a million miles away and I want to be a pilot” was bizzare????
The racist immigrations officer had its moments though, I will admit that. But all in all it’s god awful. How those two still have jobs in the industry is mad.
6 episodes isn’t that unusual for a British sitcom really
Because Black face isn’t really acceptable, that would by guess as to why it’s not on TV.
It was also shit.
Because while overall it had some funny jokes, the overall show was pretty trashy and era related.
Most of the pop culture jokes really didn’t hold up and then you have issues like Matt Lucas in blackface which really wasn’t acceptable even when it came out that was an issue. Similar to little Britain it’s just a compilation of lazy stereotyoes made into a TV show.
While I preferred it to little Britain by a long shot and found the immigration officer and taz to be my favourite characters most of it was pretty meh.
It was only 6 episodes but watching it felt like a lifetime.
I found the show pretty funny at the time, didn’t even clock or take notice of the black face tbh.
I’m of Asian heritage, and was sensitive to depictions of Asians and Muslims in the media during the time this was out. I got the sense it was more “laugh with you, not at you”.
I watched some clips on YT a couple of years ago, and sadly it’s mostly unfunny now. Maybe I’ve just grown out of that kind of humour.
What is it?
Because its shit
I don’t know why people seem to hate this show here. I thought it was hilarious and majority of others at the time did aswell. Blackface wasn’t ideal though and was put down as the general consensus as to why there wasn’t more episodes.
A) it wasn’t very good B
B) this was literally made at the exact last moment you could make this type of sitcom. It’s essentially a throwback to 5 years earlier
It’s crap.
Blackface and homophobia in one still, I’m surprised it got even 6 episodes.
Is that all it got? I never watched an episode but I felt like there was more as it was repeated on bbc3 ad nauseam.
Painfully unfunny. Still doing blackface. Just gross.
I don’t think people like blackface, not sure how this ever made it past the edit tbh
A, it was shit.
B, see A
Martin cloon, martin cloon, fing ling ling ling martin cloon.
It was shit. Everything else to one side, it was shit.
But also all the other stuff
I’m not someone who gets offended by much but it did feel like it was a bit too old fashioned.
Cos it was shit?
Lazy stereotypes, mild racism, and catch phrases were old fashioned. It didn’t have anything new to offer. I imagine the viewing figures were only headed in one direction after the first episode.
Didn’t Lucas and Walliams retrospectively denounce their work as you know, it’s a bit distasteful.
I’m not saying the jokes aren’t funny, but even then dressing up as foreigners and doing over the top voices isn’t what we should be putting out there.
If you find this genuinely funny I’m sorry to inform you that you haven’t mentally aged since you were 10 years old.
I love the implication that furry sex is the height of straightness
I think Matt Lucas is on record as saying it could not be made now
I think the answer to the question is in the picture, no?
I dont like these two. They seem to make characters with one joke and then repeat that same joke with that character over and over again.
I know their shows are successfully. But its really not my thing.
The Blackface probably wasn’t sticking with the public.
Because it was terrible?
Because it was shite?
It was crap.
Because it was down-punching, unfunny shite
Pocahontas meets Space Cadets, and wishes she hadn’t.
I prefer English food like Pizza and Chinese
deadass what could possibly be so funny about “You haven’t seen X? You’re gay”
like what the hell kind of punchline is that???? its not even a proper a joke, it just relies on the audience of the time (presumably early to mid 2000s (maybe late 90s?), judging by the camera grain) laughing at someone being called “gay”
not to mention how other commenters are saying this had blackface??? yeah no shit it got six episodes because blackface stopped being acceptable multiple decades before this flaming pile of crap even aired
better than going on forever like a lot of shows ,mostly American ones
Unfortunately it was a bit shit
Damn wait till you guys watch boondocks your heads are going to explode
Do you know Al-Qaeda ?
No
Good
No wait
Yeasss ?
I think I have him on face book !
URGH
I’m guessing the “only six episode run” was down to the racism.
Simple; because it was shite.
Cause it was utter shite
I couldn’t care less about Matt Lucas and David Walliams stuff, I wanna know what the hell happened to Cardinal Burns. One of the funniest sketch shows I’ve seen and it’s impossible to watch digitally or buy physical media for.
He got SAd by the owner of Flymo. It was kinda messed up but hilarious at the same
Just saying “suits your sir” over and over would not cut it today lads, sorry. And I love Paul Whitehouse like he’s an uncle i never had.

I mean barring a few sketches it is kinda mid.
