Malta has negotiated a 17% increase in its tuna fishing quota, the government said in a statement.
The increase – from 434 to 507 tonnes – of permitted fishing of bluefin tuna was a “fair achievement for Maltese and Gozitan fishermen”, parliamentary secretary Alicia Bugeja Said told an Agrifish meeting in Brussels.
This quota will be applicable for the next three years.Â
Bugeja Said was accompanying Minister Anton Refalo, who told the same meeting that the Common Agricultural Policy should be flexible to reflect national realities.Â
